Photographer’s Note

Pretoria place, guarded by the Senatorial Palace, present city council and by the sumptuous Church of Santa Caterina. In center of the place the young people of Palermo congregate themselves around the Pretoria source while the tourists photograph themselves without stopping.

Pretoria Fontana, located in the Pretoria place, in the city of Palermo, in Sicily, is perhaps the most peculiar source of all the city.

It occupies the center of the place, and one rises to a level higher than the Maqueda Route, that crosses one of the sides of the place. Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo, successor of Cosme I of Medici, Great Duke of Tuscan, ordered to the sculptors Francesco Camilliani and Michelangelo Naccherino a source for the garden of its Florentine residence. After the death of the client, in 1552, and thanks to the mediation of his son, Garci'a de Toledo, it was acquired by the palermitano Senate and it transfers to his present place.

The batteries with water get ready in three levels concentric, surrounded by statues representqando mythological monsters, animal, and the four rivers of Palermo, the Oreto, the Papireto, the Gabriele and the Maredolce.

The source of the shame due to the nakedness of the statues was denominated at the time. The cupola is the one of the Cathedral.
