Photographer's Note

This is the majolica tiled dome of Chiesa del Carmine in Palermo. The dome is supported by four giant Atlas figures. The church was built in 1627 by Mariano Smiriglio and is situated close to the Ballarò food market on of four ancient markets in Palermo.

This is a beautiful detail of what seems to be a very beautiful church. I like those sculptures and the dome decorated with tiles.Colours are very good also!

You chose your POV correctly to catch the light from the best direction to benefit from excellent light/shade contrasts. The blue sky makes a perfect background to show off the detail.

Hi Ulf!
Thank you very much for posting a photo of one of the most beautiful churches of Palermo! Tourists sometimes go to Ballarò (also if they often prefer the more touristic Vuccirìa) but almoste no one notice this beautiful dome and it's wonderful colors!
Please help Palermo to find enough money to restore it! It continues to break down!
