Photographer’s Note

This is the last post before Easter, so I wish all the members of the TE more serene holiday, but most of all my thoughts go to the unfortunate people affected by the earthquake in Abruzzo.

Il Borgo Giuliano was built in 1938 in the territory of San Teodoro (ME) and was so named in memory of a fallen in Africa. The village was constructed in order to colonize and expand in unproductive agricultural areas, the village has a few houses and a church. The small village, now very degraded and unsafe, was one of eight built in rural villages of Sicily by colonization within the laws and Tassinari Serpieri for the fight against large estates and the protection of the farming population. Was visited by Tassinari Minister in September 1940 and symbolically inaugurated in December the same year. It was self-sufficient and had, among others, the following buildings:
With the home church pastor;
School with accommodation for the teacher;
Also there was the barber, the restaurant, the grocery shop, and lived there the technical agronomist and the midwife.
In the background you can see Mount Etna.
Special thanks to Giorgio (Clementi) who with his precious advice helped me in the PP of this image that I hope you like it.
In the WS a most detailed picture of conditions in which is the site now.
