Photographer’s Note
One of the most beautiful places that I visited in Italy was the town of Taormina, one of the places where our cruiser stopped and we have the opportunity to visit it for several hours.
The photo was taken from the remains of the "Greek theatre", that really isn't actually Greek, as the theatre was rebuilt by the Romans in the 2nd century BC on the site of the original theatre and from there you have an amazing view.
Taormina is a small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, and it has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. The town is built on an extremely hilly coast, and is approximately a forty-five minute drive away from Europe's largest active volcano, Mount Etna. (some inf. from Wikipedia)
You can see a wider view of the theater in my WS.
Hope you like it.

Hi Emile,
I was there too but I haven't found this majestic POV. The view is fantastic and the sailing ship coming in is a fine bonus.

Hola my friend from the Dominican Republic ;-)
You have visit a great place, a place that is on my list for a very long time but i never made it to there....but one day i will, because Sicily has a lot to offer.
Although you had not the best light here (looks hazy, bit dull), but your pov is great with the old ruins in front and the city around the bay. That sailship...any idea? Looks like the Khruzensthern or maybe the Americo Vespuci?
Whatever, the view is great...

Hola Emile,
Fantastic point of view, with ruins as foreground giving passage to our eyes to see this marvelous landscape, including those beautiful ships. The relief of the land at right gives a false impression of inclination in your shot, but we know that it is not true by other elements not tilted.
Thanks for sharing,

Although it is good to see the view in the WS for the extra information it gives us, this image is definitely the better of the two. The POV was perfect not only to see the ruins but the wonderful view beyond. Excellent shot.

Hola amigo Emile,

Hello dear friend
Of course it was not simple for taking a picture of the theater without the crowd
The main picture is very interesting; nice view in spite the hard lights.
If you return back there I suggest you to make a zoom with the 200 mm to give a tight frame on the rights columns.
Friendly regards.

Bonsoir, mon bon ami Emile,

Hola Emile,
nice the panoramic view of Taormina, with the ruins of the Greek theater,in the foreground. The place has a great history and was apparently already a considerable town at the time of the expedition of Timoleon in 345 BC.I like the light in the foreground as the proud sailing boat that is entered in Taormina's hourbour.Well done.
Have a nice week,Danos

Hola Emile,
Me acuerdo de una foto be batalay en este local, pero un poco más para la derecha. Las ruinas parecen muy interesantes, con el bono de la vista magnifica sobre el mar, la cuesta y la presencia del gran velero.
Saludos, José.

Hola Emile,
Outstanding framing using the pilars to frame the broad sweeping hillside and harbor below. While the light is better in the WS and the details of the theatre are also interesting, the ZWS just can't match the framing here.

Hola Emile, splendid mediterranean view with a very well composed FG that makes a two in one picture. The ruins are a strong and wonderful element without being too much intrusive because of the windows (arches) and hole in the middle that let us enjoy the whole scenery. The ship with 4 masts is a nice detail. Thanks for the WS - I believe there's too many tourists for my taste... ;-)
Un abrazo,

Hi Emile, your beautiful and well composed photo refreshes my memory of my second vacation with my husband to be. (he is my husband since 1972, but it was in 1971 we visited Taormina and the whole island of Sicily)
Since then I have visited Sicily once, with my oldest son, and we went up to Etna, which I had not dared in 1971, because I got fear of hights as soon as I met my husband. Probably natures way to prepare the mother-to-be to feel safe with her infants. Now, when my children are grown up since long, my fear of hights is gone!
TFS this for me so full of memory photo!

Hello Emile,
The ancient ruins make a great foreground interest, making the background appear like just that - background!
A fine composition, well balanced and with a fine sense of depth...
I also notice the five masted ship in the harbour, an impressive vessel!

Hello Emile,
Also to me this looks a nice place to be. You made a very beautiful combination of a panorama of the coastline and a view on the ruins of the Roman 'Greek' theatre and this on the right moment when the big ship was entering the bay.
Best regards, Paul

A fine view in this fhoto Emile with a good inclusion of the forward ruins. The fourmaster sailer in the harbour fits well in this work.

Hello Emile
I had no idea about this place, so thanks for your picture & the note. The brick colour of the ruins contrast with the blue of the sea. Like the position of the regal Royal Clipper in the BG. The WS certainly provides additional interest. Good work!

Hello Emile,
I agree whole heartedly, the Greek Theater in Taormina is one of the most beautiful setting i the entire Mediterranean. The first time I visited the place in 1993, I mde the mistake of walking the entire distance from the pier where the tender's from cruise ships leave the passengers (diametrically opposite). On a hot day, that is not a wise thing to do. You framed the image beautifully, with Mt. Etna's slopes rising majestically in the background. Twenty-five centuries ago the Greek philosopher Empedocles jumped into the volcano, with the misbegotten notion that he would become immortal in the process. Now only Empedocles knows whether it worked.
Have a good weekend,
Bulent
