Photographer’s Note
The interior of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo presents an extraordinarily elaborate picture. Its ceiling is virtually marzipanned with ornament in the worst imaginable tradition of Baroque excess, encrusted with gilded stucco, painted vignettes and languishing statues.
