Our Lady of Grace of Primolo
The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie in Primolo was built on the initiative by the pastor John Church in 1670 but the real work is only started with the laying of the foundation stone on Wednesday, August 3, 1688. Two days later the old priest died. His nephew and successor, Don Giovanni Maria Church, extended the initial project. The beautiful shrine was built as the end of 1600 and beginning of 1700 and graced steadily until the present day.
The Sanctuary is still a place of pilgrimage and a place of worship not only for the villagers. The building is located in a landscape of absolute beauty, having been built on a hill that dominates the valley of Chiesa Valmalenco. Below you can see the towns of Lanzada and Caspoggio, looking silhouetted against the sky Pizzo Steps.
The feast of Our Lady of Grace with Holy Mass, procession through the narrow streets of the charming hamlet, a communal meal, is celebrated on the first Sunday of August.
