A view of one of the many stairways that linked the subway line 1 to the subway line 3, at 30 meters under the Duomo of Milan, in the omonymous subway stations.

Milan subway have today 3 subway lines with 5 services on different branches, 1 people mover and 8 Suburban lines that run underground in the city with subway frequency and service for a total network of 267 kilometers and 88 stations.

A new branch of line M2 will be opened in the 2010, and a new section of 4 kilometers of M3 will be opened in the late 2010 and a new section of M1 will run to Monza.

Two new lines of subway are under construction, the M4 and M5, and the M6 is under project.
The first half of M5 will be completed in two part between 2011 and 2012. The second half of M5 and the M4 will be completed for the Universal Expo of 2015.


Today:
3 lines
5 services
74.6 kilometers

Under construction:
2 new lines and 3 new extension for a total of 41.7 kilometers

Under project:
New extension of M2 and M3 and new line M6 for a total of new 35 kilometers.

The network at the end of the plan to the Expo 2015 will have 151.3 kilometers, 6 lines, 10 services and
more than 150 stations.

In the same years will be extended also the S railway system with a total of 15 Suburban lines and more than 140 stations.
