Photographer's Note
Varenna and lake Como, another old home scan, badly damaged negative as usual, taken from a fort if I remember correctly, reached by a short path from the village, this view is looking west. I tried to darken the overexposed sky and neat image neatened too much in the lake and not enough in the sky.

Killer photo there Tan. Almost looks as the mountain is erupting in a volcanic spew.

Well, Tan, I can understand your disappointment with the scan quality, but it is still a good composition and an interesting image with the cloud perched atop the mountain. Looks like those little houses enjoy a fabulous view.

I like the fact that the view of Varenna is filled with structures & makes an edge with the lake & the reflection of the mountain & clouds in the lake is nearly the inverse of the village...

The scan may not be the greatest, but this is a great composition! I like the way you placed the town down at the bottom, with only the roofs showing, and the lake and mountain at the top, all in well balanced harmony. Great idea and a great result too!

Hello Tan! Long time don´t hear from you!
This is another of your wonderful shots! Excelent POV! The reflection of that cloud is all, but I like the red roofs also! GREAT!

Hi Tan, that's BELLA ITALIA! What a beautiful village and the wonderful landscape. First moment I didn't recognize because I thought it was a spying vulcano.
Wonderful composition, nice POV. Great natural colours and good light.

Hello Tan. I sure like how the mountain echoes the shape of the Varenna coastline. The colors and composition are very nice!

Hi Tan, intersting POV and crop with the village so isolated. There is still a lot of noise in the air but you managed to get a decent quality out of a damaged negativ, not bad.
Thanks and regards, gerrit

Brilliant perspective Tan (as usual from you)...the village, the church steeple, the small square in the bottom half contrasts brilliantly with the blue of the sea. The clouds above the mountain makes it appear like a spewing volcano.

Hi Tan,
very nice point of view and great composition ! The village, illuminated by a very nice light, seems to point the mountain and its big cloud. Fortunatly, there is this cloud which makes the sky isn't empty.
Another postcard from you, congratulations !

Hi Yan,
You have so many fantastic images in your album that it's almost impossible to know where to start! Almost every one of them is stunning! A lot of members (me included) are what I'd call 'enthusiastic amateurs'. Your photography, from what I see here, is the stuff of professionals.
For a badly damaged negative, this picture has turned out amazingly well. If it was that bad, it's easy to forgive the few minor problems in the sky and the occasional mark elsewhere. To pass negative comment on these things after you've told us about them would be a little unfair. The only other comments I can make are all in praise of this magnificently composed pic. It's obviously a wide angle shot and, with the inclusion of the bright, strongly coloured buildings below, has added some nice colour and light contrasts. The results are really great! The soft reflection of the mountain also contributes to fantastic overall effect.
Keep up the good work, my friend.
Hugs,
Tony

Hej Tan,
The composition is excellent here. I like to see the village in the bottom of the shot, the mountain and clouds in top and the lake in between. The colours are very pleasing too and the reflection in the lake is a nice detail. Good work, thanks for sharing!

Hi Tan
The quality isn't bad at all and with such a fantastic view to distract us I wouldn't even have pointed out the technical issues. I love the characteristic Italian roofs and church and especially the shape of the headland which echoes that of the distant mountain. The dramatic cloud adds a lot too to the image. Superb view, Excellent framing.

Hi Tan,
A superb view of this amazing area. Despite the scan, the essential quality shines through, though there is a little noise in the sky. The blue and orange hues contrast so well together. The unusual cloud hangs like some giant bird atop the mountain, enhancing the scene further. A great use of the vertical format. Exhilarating, Tan.

I see you were shooting your trademark skies way back in 1998, Tan. But what really makes this image stand out is the clever composition with the shape of the shoreline at the bottom almost replicated by the shape of the mountain in the background. You can see some of the negative damage in the sky, but the rest of the scan is pretty good. Despite the flaws in the sky, the outstanding composition of this, and otherwise good technical quality, makes it well worth posting. This is one of those places that you should mark down to revisit one day with your new digital camera. Cheers . . . David

Let me see...high viewpoint, stunning scenery, wonderful sky & a scanned slide...it has to be one of your shots Tan! The small triangle created by the village is great for adding a splash of contrast to the deep blue colours.
