Photographer’s Note

Campione d'Italia is an Italian enclave within Switzerland by the lake of Lugano. Its status came about when Ticino chose to become part of the Swiss Confederation in 1798, and Campione's people chose to remain part of Lombardy. Campione takes advantage of its status by operating Casinò di Campione and being a tax free zone. One way of keeping higher profile of this small community is spectacular fireworks.

Handheld as I could not find a good support on big crowd. No doubt image stabilizer helped a lot. Polarizer wasn't on for purpose. I had screwed it in too tightly and could not remove it during the event. I wonder what kind of influence it had on the result. ISO 800, -2/3 exposure comp. Conservative saturation settings of my Canon didn't seem to quite fit on the fireworks. I increased saturation more than usually, not only to boost effect, but to give it the same impression I saw with my own eyes.

Well exposed and sharp despite having being shot hand held, seems the colors are after Ticino flag, possibly some nostalgy here, a nice festive image with much red as well to celebrate arrival of the new canon camera next week ;-)

I now about the difficulties concerning fireworks and photography - but you managed a wonderful shot here. The mirroring in the lake is a beautiful addition here and the colours are really great. I think I can hear it! ;-))

A very nice one. Perfect sharpnes and lovely framing. Then subject is perfectly balanced from right to left while the is a nice contrast between up & down.
