Photographer’s Note

Strung along 18km of serrated cliffs between Levanto and La Spezia, the Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s treasures. These five higgledy-piggledy villages – Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore – are cut off by mountains choked with olive groves and dry-stone-walled vineyards, where farmers have eked out a living over the centuries.

In nearly every place I’ve ever been when traveling, I have never wanted to leave, even if I knew the next place I was going would be wonderful (which it usually was). In the Cinque Terre, I was depressed upon leaving, and changed my plans to spend extra nights there. I fell in love: hard, fast. Everything was amazing-from the food to the views to the infamous Via dell’Amore to the fabulous hikes in the mountains to the people.

This is our last evening there. Last sun rays of the day hitting the side of the houses. The fishing boats back on the pier, waiting for tomorrow morning's fishing expedition.

Wonderful presentation of the small dock in Riomaggiore, Marc,

You have beautifully demonstrated your talent at capturing creative and extraordinary points of view in your images - this perspective wonderfully achieves the effect of leading the viewer's eye up the ramp at past the colorful fishing boats to the pastel pretty buildings and breezy varandas above. The overcast weather is a bit unfortunate, but we can't always choose the conditions in which we shoot. I hardly think it takes away from the beauty of the photo and the delightfully charming feeling that shines through here. Well done and thank you for sharing!

What a beautiful photo, I especially love the angle. Did you have to increase the saturation to get this effect?

Marc,
This is a great shot of Riomaggiore. Your composition is great using the steps to lead the eye into the shot. The boats add nice points of interest for the shot. I spent a couple of days in Cinque Terre this past summer and you are right it is a place you don't want to leave.

Hi Marc.
The very low viewpoint, the colourful boats and the buildings on a different angle, all make this an excellent composition. It's a very atmospheric picture of this town and makes me want to visit. I'm sure there's a lot of life in the streets and lanes of this coastal town.

Bonjour Marc,
A nice view point looking up, and I like the stranded boats making patches of colour all along the way right up to the tall colourful buildings.
It does look like a lovely and relaxing place to spend some time, and from your description of the surroundings it really sounds great.

Bonjour Marc,
Belle prise de vue et composition de ces bateaux de pêcheurs près à prendre la mer..
belle perpective et détails.
jolie architecture et un excellent POV./DOF.
Sur la photo nos 3 on peut voir l'endroit où tu as prise cette photo sur cette pente qui descend à la mer..
Excellent cliché Marc et j'aime bien les couleurs aussi.

Salut Marc, having a father from Naples has always made me biased for the Amalfi Coast, but after seeing your photos of Liguria, I am starting to change my mind! This POV really is unique I like the idea of you standing on that boat ramp looking up into the town itself. The vertical framing enhances this low POV and the colourful boats and buildings really make this a typically Italian shot. Excellent DOF - achieved at f7.1 - great work and have a wonderful week, Lisa.

j'aime bien l'organisation de cette photo avec un point de vue qui permet de rentrer dans la photo, de suivre ces escaliers et de decouvrir tous les details qui font le charme de ce village.

Hello Marc,

you have been captured by the charm of Cinque Terre too!
This one is an original pov, which shows the main features of those villages: their steepness!
It's a pov I didn't think of, perhaps because I'm attracted by the sea, but anyway it allowed you to create a nice composition with the colourful boats in the foreground.
