Photographer’s Note

The Vernazza parish church, dedicated to St. Margaret of Antiochia, was built in 1318 in Ligurian-Gothic. It has two peculiarities: the tower, octagonal and 40 m tall, seems more like a minaret than a bell tower (missing only the muezzin calling to prayer), and the entrance is located in the apse instead of in front. The interior has a basilica plant with three naves and the use of slate, the local black stone, makes it very evocative. The tabernacle is a stunning Gothic (XV) by an unknown author, on the right side of the apse.

La Chiesa parrocchiale di Vernazza, dedicata a S. Margherita di Antiochia, è stata costruita nel 1318 in stile gotico-ligure. Presenta due particolarità: la torre, a pianta ottagonale e alta 40 m, più che un campanile sembra un minareto (manca solo il muezzin che chiama alla preghiera); e l'ingresso è posto nell'abside anziché nella facciata. L'interno presenta una pianta basilicale a tre navate ed è suggestivo per l'impiego dell'ardesia, la pietra nera locale.
Splendido è il tabernacolo gotico (sec. XV) di autore ignoto, sul lato destro dell'abside

Ciao Donato, Beautiful photo of the Vernazza church. Indeed looks a bit like the minaret, octogonal and with the gallery. It could be the place for the muezzin or the trompeter playing hours. Nice evening colours.

Ciao Donato. Niente male questa luce soft e buona profondità. Il POV poi è molto intrigante.
Ma perchè caspita hai tagliato la croce sopra la cupola?

un pov interessante e un bel taglio,perfettamente gestiti luce e colori, ci mancava solo lo spazio per arretrare un po'(o un ottica piu' corta ) e mettere la seconda croce intera,

Bentornato tra noi carissimo Donato,
apprezzo molto questa immagine, soprattutto per avere avuto la buona idea (non tutti l'avrebbero fatto) di dare molto spazio al muro della facciata ottenendo così una piacevole profondità del campanile. La composizione è geometricamente e cromaticamente ben equilibrata, con una luce da fine giornata. Sono d'accordo con te, il particolare della croce tagliata è ininfluente nel complesso della foto. Complimenti!

Yes, the bell tower does vaguely resemble a Muslim minaret. And also surprisingly, large portions of the Koran, echo the same words of the Bible. Why the 2 religions feel compelled to fight, I have no idea. Human nature, I guess. Good pp work with the dodging. Tfs!

The intricately details church tower stands out brilliantly against the vivid blue sky.

this is an interesting photo taken from a good POV (to show the details of the top). But what happened to the very top of the photo? It looks like the cross (or what is it?) is partly cropped...

La croce sulla cupola è indubbiamente un elemento importante in una foto di questo genere e tagliarne la parte superiore non è stata forse una buona idea. Secondo il mio gusto personale l'avrei inclusa, eventualmente conservando un'inquadratura simile, semplicemente adattata a un formato leggermente piu' quadrato.
E' comunque una buona immagine dal basso contrasto e dunque dai delicati passaggi tonali.
