Photographer’s Note

This is the small square of Vernazza, seen from the harbour which I have already taken in my first post of this series.
I should have wished a wider view here but I had no tripod with me. After a survey around luckily I noticed a small wooden pole with a flat top just on the quay in front of the village. I set my camera on to it, keeping it with both hands, clicked the shutter and hoped for the best…
What do you think of the result?

The title: Vulnetia was the ancient Latin name of Vernazza

Questa è la piazzetta di Vernazza, vista dal porto, che ho già fotografato nella mia prima foto di questa serie. Avrei voluto riprendere una vista più ampia qui, ma non avevo con me il cavalletto. Così dopo essermi guardato un po’ intorno ho notato un paletto di legno che spuntava dalla banchina proprio di fronte al paese. Ci ho poggiato sopra la mia macchina fotografica, tenendola con entrambe le mani (la base era piuttosto piccola) e ho scattato sperando per il meglio…
Che ne pensate del risultato?

Hi Donanto,

A romantic and warm mood you created here and how good to put some blue inside for contrast and bringout detail on the top part of the image. A place i would like to visit, when i ever go that far south i give you a call ;-)
Okay, no tripod, i'll forgive you and it explains the 2.8. With a tripod you could go much higher and getting some real star effect on those lanterns, but i doubt if that is possible with a G9.
Whatever, the mood is set, the warm light is spreading all over the buildings...a lovely shot and good composition.

Ciao Donato,
this night shot - the golden colours - makes me envious of those who saw this beauty with their own eyes :) But most of all I like the composition - the chosen POV is excellent!
I can't say too much about it except that I like this mood very much!
About having a tripod... I seldom carry one with me, so I always do as you did: find something to place my camera on ;)
Good result!
Sometimes it's not the sharpness that matters but the effect and the mood :)

what a wonderful and typical square of this region. I've the need to go there and eat sth. at the "piazzata" that seems to have a romantic charm at night.

Ciao Donato.
Il diaframma a tutta apertura (scelto probabilmente per ottenere un tempo idoneo a fermare le increspature del mare) ha forse un po' esasperato gli aloni dei lampioni. Il cielo blu intenso si accoppia bene con la dominante gialla. Buona la profondità, la definizione, i riflessi.

concordo con Bobo, avrei chiuso leggermente il diaframma per definire meglio le luci, comunque una composizione ben equilibrata, con una bella tonalita'

A very attractive and atmospheric photo! The composition is excellent showing a good perspective, many details and a lovely blue sky on top of the photo. The warm colours are beautiful creating an inviting atmosphere. I think you managed quite well with your exposure using that "natural" camera support. A photo to dream in. Complimenenti!

bella la prospettiva del marciapiede che orienta l'occhio verso la piazzetta.
Le luci calde creano un contrasto con l'azzurro intenso dell'ora blu e danno fascino e atmosfera fatata alla foto. Bel colpo!

bella e suggestiva l'ora blu di Vernazza, catturata in modo eccellente e piacevole. Pur avendo sempre un tripod di scorta in macchina, anch'io mi faccio prendere dalla pigrizia di portarlo con me, ma mi consolo, perchè vedo che è possibile, con un pò di genialità, eseguire scatti perfetti usando ciò che ci sta attorno. Bella foto, mi piace, anche perchè questa piazzetta l'ho vista solo di giorno. Bravo!

Hello Donato,

A romantic atmosphere with the harbour as a central element!
The night time characteristics with warm artificial light and the feeling of laziness, and we get a hint of human presence in the background...

Complimenti per la qualita`, assolutamente spettacolare anche senza il treppiede. La mia memoria e` quella di un elefantino e in questa foto rivedo una scena che risale al 1956. Avevo 4 anni, eravamo venuti qui una domenica in gita da Torino... Questi sono comunque posti che fortunatamente non cambiano molto nel tempo.

Wonderful tranquil mood created by the lovely golden light reflection softly on the harbor at the blue hour.
The sky blends perfectly with the lights and along with the hills makes the ideal backdrop for this fine image with the lovely architecture another plus.

Ciao Donato,penso che il paletto non fosse perfettamente verticale.....la foto pende decisamente a sinistra,sarebbe bastata una raddrizzatina in PP,perche' il tempo di esposizione e' davvero perfetto,cosi' come i colori,le luce e i dettagli...davvero niente male,buona settimana,LUCIANO

Un bel risultato considerando le difficoltà incontrate, la cosa migliore la trovo nella bella atmosfera di piccolo porto marinaro nella notte emanata dalla foto, complimenti Donato.

This is a nice night shot of this beautiful port. Your have done a great job of blending natural and artificial lighting to create an appealing shot. The blue sky adds a nice touch to the shot. We leave for Italy in just over a month and will be spending a couple of days in Cinque Terre, your photos increase my excitement.

Ciao Donato. A lovely impression from the blue hour, taken from a good angle to show a lot of details from this beautiful old harbour. The exposure is perfectly balanced to convey the atmosphere, and the light reflections on the water strengthen the moody impression. Good work.

Il n'y a pas beaucoup de photos des Cinque Terre prises de nuit et je me demandais justement si ces villages étaient aussi beaux de nuit.
C'est superbe !! Tu as su parfaitement capter la lumière. Cette photo dégage vraiment une atmosphère particulière.

Beautiful blue hour scene, no need for tripod while there are flat top poles nearby ;-), I think you have done really well with all details sharp, nice colour & reflections, A smaller shutter speed may have given the lights an attractive star pattern but without a tripod I know that would have impossible, but an excellent result is achieved. Bravo
