Photographer's Note

This is Manarola ("Manaea" in the local dialect), one of the towns all the awe-inspiring Cinque Terre. You're probably used to seeing it in full sunshine, with colours resplendent and a calm sea. Well that wasn't to be, but we still had a fantastic time, witnessing the wild winds, sea and rain. And then rushing to shelter in a cosy restaurant with good food and vino. Manarola's main industries are tourism, fishing and wine-making, the local wine known as Sciacchetrà well worth a try. It is probably the oldest of the six towns, with its church San Lorenzo dating from 1338.
