Vernazza is probably the prettiest of the Cinque Terre, this was taken from the footpath to Monterosso after sunset. There is limited space to set up a tripod, so the bushes in the fg were unavoidable. 27mm. focal length, 2.5 second exposure. I did take more shots after the sky became darker, but I prefer this lighter version in this case.
The "vehicles" parked in front of the red building at left are boats, not cars.
Vernazza is accessible by foot, boat or train. By car the non-resident parking area is a 10 minute walk away downhill (25 minutes walk back uphill with luggage).

I believe the timing of this photo is the most convenient as it shows a great light and plenty of textures over the sea. A bit later and everything would be much darker and loosing detail. The town looks very beautiful with all those colourful buildings. It is quite amazing to see where they built the church. Well done.

Great shot taken at perfect moment. I like how the village fits in the frame, the shape, the angle.
Excellent light balance between the sky and the lamps.
chpp (4281) 2008-03-18 18:41
amazing shot, the exposure is great. you got nice light and colours. Very nice composition and POV, the only thing is the grass in the FG
but very nice shot
Dyerco (10185) 2008-03-18 21:17
The POV is excellent as it allows a full view of the little bay. The lighting is just right as the streetlights etc don't get blown out.

Magnifique photo, Tan!

superb capture of Vernazza, a pretty village of the Cinque terre..
here my post from thee, from the castle..http://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=7&p=637198
but i'd say that i prefer Riomaggiore. :-)
ktanska (21527) 2008-03-19 4:00
Never been they but these villages are very famous from numerous travel publications. I hope it wasn't too crowded by tourists in March. Tight space next to the sea, and no cars makes it special. Nice colours on those buildings and they shows quite brightly on this dusk shot. Really not an inch is wasted over there!
francesav (743) 2008-03-19 4:25
very nice view of Vernazza. Very nice colors, you shooted at the right moment!
pasternak (15165) 2008-03-19 4:49
Excellent light for this view, Tan, the contrast of lighting and bright colours conveys a strong 3D feeling to this scene, and seen from a high ground it looks like a toy village...
pboehringer (770) 2008-03-19 7:07
Tan, a typical shot out of your camera. I would have recognized your signature even without your name on it. Great moment and POV with perfect 2s to blurr slightly the sea, although I wonder how it would look with a tighter aperture and longer exposure time, but than it wouldn't be yours anymore ;-)
Tue (25798) 2008-03-19 7:24
Wonderful photo from a great higher POV. The little village looks very charming on this wonderful location at the sea. The light management is superb and the colours are very pleasant. Thanks for sharing!
Cormac (26545) 2008-03-19 7:39
Wow, the light in this is just right! Great balance between the lights of the town and the fading daylight, giving this a very different and beautiful appearance. The sweeping curve of the shoreline is great too. Excellent work!
Budapestman (82620) 2008-03-19 9:41
Amazing view with spectacular composition, I like the vivid colours and the fantastic POV, really pictuesque spectacle, Great! Have a nice day
lukie (0) 2008-03-19 11:17
this is a well chosen POV to capture this little beautiful village. The sharpness and colors are perfect.
gilou530 (34) 2008-03-19 12:47
a very good POV in plunged which gives a general sight of this small village which seems to fall asleep, the color of the frontages gives a splendid style but well of Italy
miumiu (3888) 2008-03-19 12:57
Amazing view and seascape with little port and houses! Colours and lights gives very impressive and calm atmosphere! l like it!
Note is very nice too!
PixelTerror (0) 2008-03-19 13:52
Only the foreground bushes (easily cloned) tell this is not shot from a hot air balloon, once again the captin's pov speaks for itself, great view !
Have a nice day JY
chrkont (4005) 2008-03-19 14:33
What an amazing capture of a extraordinary place. You have beautiful colors and light all over the image. Very good POV and timing. TFS
euryan (8432) 2008-03-19 14:34
Very nice, you always give us the best views wherever you go. I remember climbing to the top of that tower across the way, but the view was not as good as this. And you have to pay ;-) You shot this at the perfect time of day to capture the lights of the village along with the 'blue hour' color of the sky. Perfect composition as well. I don't mind the bit of grass as the bottom.
dan75 (149) 2008-03-20 4:43
Bellissima ripresa dall'alto dell'incantevole cittadina ligure.
Ottima la luce se pur al tramonto e buona anche la scelta del tempo di scatto "lungo" che ha permesso di dare un bell'effetto alle onde del mare, un po' agitato.

Firstly it was great to catch up with you and thanks for bringing the ray of sunshine :-)
This is a place I'd love to visit but not in summer. I like the way the blue hour light brings out the pretty colours of the buildings. Your pov is spectacular showing off how the village is almost surrounded by water.
virmanisandeep (217) 2008-03-23 8:00
This is a beutiful shot. I am just thinking, how cozy it would be inside the houses and watch the sea.
nes7 (735) 2008-03-23 13:01
ViktorVaughn (1521) 2008-03-23 21:01
Another great shot Tan, this looks like an incredible corner of Italy. I agree with you, good timing with the lighting, as the lamps in the village set a good atmosphere here.
coco (30433) 2008-03-24 0:39
Splendid work with thecomposition and the xposure.

A great Vernazza view, not easy to see a night one. excellent POV light and colours too.
I can see the windows of a guesthouse of my friend!

Being too busy these days to regularly check out TE. I'm glad I have few minutes now to see your recent photos.
This one has your trademark high POV plus a good blue hour exposure. very interesting subject as well.
Good work to add to your photo encyclopaedia.

Je connais bien ce village.
La photo que tu en as faite au crépuscule est magnifique.
I am well aware of this village.
The picture that you have made at dusk is beautiful.

What is there to say?! This is a fantastic photo of a simply gorgeous Italian village. The colour and light is incredible. The village looks very cosy and protected from the sea. Well done!

My 'TE joy' of the day is discovering the Cinque Terre and this photo is one of the best ones.
I especially like the lighting in the archway.
You captured the atmosphere of the place perfectly.
The 'rainbow' lighting in the water reminds me of your Hong Kong skyline night shot.
magalik (6095) 2009-08-18 13:48
Wonderful !!! I'm loosing my eyes...
Perfect exposition and POV !!! One of the most beautiful shot I have seen on Vernazza.

Merhaba Tan bey,
I agree with you that Vernazza is the prettiest of the Cinque Terre villages and your caught and composition with the low light add charme and a magic mood.
As usually a great work and an informative note.
