Back to Italy and the beautiful little town of Vernazza.
This shot was taken from the pathway that leads to Monterosso al Mare. A stroll here takes one through vineyards and small vegetable gardens that have been part of the Cinque Terre man-made landscape for a thousand years.

The red flowers in the foreground are very fine here, they provide both depth and colours to this very beautiful view over the old town below. The blue sky and sea are matching these red flowers in a perfect way. Beautiful!

This seems to have been taken from more or less the same position as Craig's posting the other day, although the lighting levels are somewhat different. I like the choice of the vertical format which helps create a lovely layering effect with the foreground flowers making a superb anchor point. The lighting is very pleasant indeed and the colours superb. A part of Italy I have yet to visit, it must be on my list. Thanks for sharing.

a touch of deja-vu here as Craig posted a similar shot to this just yesterday, and I commented on it only a few hours ago. Yours is a more expanded view but just as tantalising and beautiful. Awesome place and captured perfectly. As I said to Craig I really should get over to Italy again, shots like this are so inspiring.
Have a great week - B.

Hello Rosemary ,
It was almost the same POV than our friend Craig . I have planed to do this walk next october , but those wonderful springtime flowers will be not more there at this time ....
CLODO (34884) 2014-07-28 7:13
the same shot as Craig, but
- you've opted for a vertical format to include the pink flowers at the foreground and the sea at bottom
- the light is coming from the opposite direction (I feel you take the picture in the morning).
I like the colors of the houses and parasols of the restaurants.
My warmest regards

Hello, what a beautiful Mediterranean scene. Excellent composition with the flowers in the fg and a great vista to the sea.
That is one of the places I have always wanted to see.
tyro (25910) 2014-07-28 8:16
What a coincidence! Just last night I wrote a critique on Craig's recent photograph which must have been taken from almost exactly the same viewpoint as yours and it is very interesting to compare the two images and appreciate just how two different photographers can "see" a scene differently and come up with two quite different interpretations!
This is a beautifully colourful photograph in which the boost to the colours is certainly made by the bright flowers in the close foreground and your tiny aperture (f/20) has secured an excellent depth of field and spectacular sharpness throughout.
A fine composition with lovely light, vibrant colours, perfect exposure and exquisite clarity.
ikeharel (73549) 2014-07-28 8:23
You are in competition today with Craig, both posted beautiful Vernazza picture from almost same POV.
Just small difference, yours is a morning photo (realized by the shades), and he posted an afternoon pic.
Fine combined with the FG flowers, nicely added as bonus.
Beautiful town in Cinque-Terre.
photoray (13981) 2014-07-28 8:46
Attractive view of Vernazza, seen from the hilltop with flower foreground, boats resting in the harbor, classical village architecture, castle keep, then blue Mediterranean background.
asajernigan (21427) 2014-07-28 9:18
This is a fine shot of Vernazza! We spent a few days their a few years back and just loved the area. The food and wine were amazing and the scenery breathtaking. Your composition is great here using the vertical format to emphasize the depth of the scene. The inclusion of the flowers and brush in the foreground add color and a fine border for the scene. The angle of the shot is nice allowing us to see all of Vernazza's waterfront. The lighting and colors. We great as is the photo's sharpness and DOF.

Wow! What a charming scene you have captured! True beauty! Love the visual effect achieved here due to the well managed composition and fantastic color saturation. Excellent image!
ktanska (28148) 2014-07-28 10:23
When I saw Craig's shot from up there I thought I haven't seen that angle before. And now there's another! While Craigh has more dramatic light, this has certain welcoming summer feeling, thanks to the flowers. Small aperture fit all well within focus.

Hi Rosemary, Great view of this beautiful villa with flowers in the foreground, very well composed and captured this beautiful image, well done with good quality great job, congratulations my friend, thanks for sharing.
Good evening and happy start to the week.
Best wishes from southern Spain.
Noel_Byrne (32094) 2014-07-28 10:54
What a view. The sweep of the harbour, the color and design of the buildings, the lush greens, the blue sea, I don't think there is closer to a paradise than this, rainy for a photographer anyway. I really love that you used these flowers in the foreground to balance and compliment the colors of the town. Avery special capture of a vy special place, and your title on this is beautiful too, summons up a thousand stories in my mind.
Thanks as always
swapankumarroy (2847) 2014-07-28 11:20
Wonderfully shoot the image. I think you took it in a vertical format due to capture the flowers as well as sea. You create a good colour contrast between the sea and the buildings. Well framing and good composition.
with best wishes and thanks for sharing

Hi Rosemary, How interesting, you indeed stood in the same place as Craig. And only one month time difference. What a pity you weren't in the same time :). The same POV but quite different impact with different light. I like here the marvelous emerald water in the suns. And very attractive are these pink flowers in the foreground. Wonderful photo, very inviting for visit.

daddo (27010) 2014-07-28 15:47
Hi Rosemary. One of the loveliest shots that I have seen of the place thanks to the lark's POV and the combination of vivid and eye catching colours and beautiful light.Best wishes. Klaudio.
npecanhuk (75592) 2014-07-28 19:30
Sharpness, exposure, colors, vertical format, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
I love those flowers in the lower fg!
I really enjoy the sea and the sky!
TFS - congrats,

Très bon point de vue plongeant sur Vernazza et son charmant port. les fleurs au premier plan apportent leur belle touche de couleur.

Superb composition from that amazing unique place. Love it, great colors and quality.
trevormoffiet (3112) 2014-07-29 4:52
An excellent composition in vertical format. The vivid flowers in the foreground certainly complement the other colours of the image. What a great view.
Sergiom (82815) 2014-07-29 5:53
Tu étais presque sur le même point de vue que Craig hier avec les belles fleurs à l'avant plan en prime. Tu y étais aussi juste au bon moment pour la lumière qui fait luire les couleurs.
macjake (69775) 2014-07-29 6:06
haha...its so fun to read the comments from you and John about our photos :)
and yes, John was 100% correct as my scene was taken about 930 pm.
clearly you got the better bright light, able to show off more vibrant colors in the village and the fg.
my shot is darker in the evening, so our shots are very different mood-wise. fun to compare the two though :)
love the colors and warmth here, and i'm surprised to see a vertical compo from this pov - wouldn't have expected that. great shot
PiotrF (19806) 2014-07-29 15:20
Amazing view of Vernazza, seen from the hilltop with flower in foregroundexcellent clarity and wonderful natural colors. Composition and presentation make these picture attractive.
dekanski (5642) 2014-07-29 15:45
Real postcard! I do not know is it a praise for you, but that's how I see it!
Technicaly - perfect!
Angshu (56760) 2014-07-29 19:28
Before I started to comment, I read with interest John's comment on this picture and also one by Craig..
Indeed comparing the two pictures is an example of how two artists can see the same place differently....the beauty and art of photography and photographic eye.
While vertical framing is quite a surprise, maybe because of the arc of the houses below hugging the frame, what it certainly adds is the FG...the flowers are beautiful and add a totally different dimension to this picture.
It does appear that you took this shot with the sun quite high in the horizon as I observe from the shadows below.....the exif says 9:30 morning though!
Wonderful shot Rosemary and thanks for sharing

Hi Rosemary,a spectacular advertising to Monterosso, the choice of point of view is great,i like the purple flowers below as a natural frame to the old quarter, and i like your choice of this high saturation to have the best by this view, great exposure too of the different light levels.Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello dear friend
this shot stole our heart today and the red flowers
in the foreground are very impressive and attractive

a charming postcard areal beauty indeed

This is a breathtaking view with a perfect combination of flowers, picturesque village and sea. The colours are fantastic.
Cricri (121227) 2014-08-02 23:16
Quelle belle image, si bien composer et présenter, telle une carte postale, c'est magnifique, bravo pour le POV
annjackman (21899) 2014-08-03 2:41
This must be a classic viewpoint as I have seen pictures similar to this a few times before. However, each has its own interpretation. The pink flowers in the FG give a nice balance of colour across the picture. Stunning DOF and clarity.
Kind Regards, Ann
willperrett (11256) 2014-08-05 1:59
I was there last year, but I didn't climb up to get a view like this! The wide angle and the small aperture together have given you immense depth of field, so the flowers in the foreground are well within the "acceptable circle of confusion". But I have to say that to my taste you've overdone the saturation. I know the buildings are brightly coloured, but the foliage in particular is almost luminous! A shame, as the shot is otherwise top-drawer.
adores (45877) 2014-08-05 17:12
I've just seen Craig's shot, you have taken really different photos but I like them both. I like the foreground a lot, with these pink flowers and the colour of the water is great. It must be really nice to have some time there to discover the place.
maria-v1981 (10932) 2014-08-09 4:58
This is a fantastic place with all the colours on the buildings. I also love how the shadows bring out the forms of the buildings and the good composition. There are a good variety of textures for the eyes to enjoy. Excellent shot!!
Have a nice weekend,

You found a great POV for this photo of this charming village. Such pleasant and vivid colours. Good inclusion of the flowers in the foreground too.
PaulVDV (29809) 2014-08-16 13:29
The beautiful village of Vernazza is already so colourful but you succeeded in adding even more colours to the picture.
The pink flowers in the greenery make an attractive foreground.
The water in the small port has a gorgeous colour, different from the sea.
Good idea to climb on the hill to present us this wonderful overview.
Excellent composition and depth.
Best regards, Paul

'From under my feet' to distant clouds, it's a visual delight that sparks off extasy, given the beautiful array of colourful points of interest depicted by the rules book.

Quelles couleurs!! Super composition et belle profondeur de champ,
merci et bravo,

I have seen so many impressions of this well known village here, but this one is particularly interesting! You have chosen an excellently working POV on this fascinating place. The perspective is excellent. I also like the harmonious colors very much. My compliments!
