A perfect place to visit if you enjoy hiking, cliff views, marina's, seafood, and charming colorful towns is Cinque Terre.
As we probably already know because they're so famous, its a collection of 5 towns spread across the cliffs, and each are easily reachable by walking along the connecting trails.
My favorite of the 5 towns was Vernazza. The town was larger than some of the others, so it was easier to keep busy. The views were spectacular as well, and we had a hotel with a large patio that looked out onto the ocean - how perfect was that!
It was actually almost NOT so perfect as we didn't
pre-book any hotel before arriving. We walked around the town practically begging people to let us stay with them, asking if any hotel had a room left.
Luckily we found one, and it was reasonably priced with such a fantastic Ocean view - we lucked out for sure!
Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment of it.
We wanted to hike the connecting trails to all the other towns but the trail was closed much of the way due to rockslides - that was a bit of a bummer. But then again I was recovering from a torn knee ligament i suffered earlier in Greece, so i didn't really mind that much.
Hope you like this view I got from way up on the hillside looking down.
thanks for checking in

This is a fine shot from beautiful Vernazza! Your POV is well chosen showing the village from a nice angle while including the docks and fort. The angled lighting creates a nice effect of the colorful buildings. The brush in the foreground adds depth to the scene. We ate at Al Castello which is under the green awnings in this shot, the food and view were amazing!!!

My sister is planning Cinque Terre this summer & am I envious of her!
Seeing your picture my pangs grow...amazing high POV looking at this small town with colourful facades, which seem to be common to all the 5 villages...
Lovely light & view!
Have a great Sunday!

Well you gammie knee got you up pretty high to get this great shot. Dontcha just love the colour of that water? And the beautiful touch of gold reflections. The architecture is fantastic and I agree, Vernazza was my favourite - did you get to go to the Pirate Cave Café? Those fellas that run it (the identical twins) are hilarious. Anyway, a top shot, a great POV and a reminder that I need to make a comeback to this place in the sunshine.
Cheers and don't work too hard

You couldn't have a better point of view than this overlooking the town and the harbour. The light and shadow contrasts create a particular mood. Superb saturated colours and excellent detail.

Hello Craig ,
During your trip in Europe , you've visited some of the most specatcular places , some of the most presented on TE , too . MAy be you've chosen them beacause you've seen here pictures from the places . It the same for me : i see since a long time view from the Cinque Terre , and I 've planed a stay there next october . I just hope that it will not be too crowdy , because that is not my cup of tea .*
A gorgeous plunging view on Vernazza , here . In the splendid evening light (I suppose) .

My favorite of the five as well, and this picture is a superb selling point to that notion! What an awe inspiring view from here, I only wish I had climbed to this vantage point too....but I headed the other direction towards Corniglia!?
Stayed here for two nights myself and swam in that harbour, one of the best travel memories I have. The Cinque Terre really is something special, and unquestionably beautiful!
You caught this at such a great moment, the warm sun highlighting the village with a golden touch works incredibly well with the deep blue sea. A classic and timeless view upon Vernazza, full of clarity and details. Great place to slow down and take things easy...especially for recovery on the knee....but what are you thinking hiking up here, fool!! lol
Have a good one bud. Take care.

Lep pogled na luku i grad ...
Dobar trenutak snimka i kontrast, lepo pokazano.
Dobar rad, lepo uhvacen trenutak sa svetlom koje je naglasilo lepotu arhitekture, lepe boje.
Lep grad i arhitektura.

Good time recording and contrast nicely shown.
Good work, nice captured moment of light that highlighted the beauty of the architecture, beautiful colors.

Hello Craig, Fantastic view from above! Cinque Terre is high on my bucket list. Maybe in spring? Wonderful view . But I find it strange that you spent so much time there., three night. But to spend at least one night is good idea.

Na, I don't like it - I LOVE it!!
This is a fabulously beautiful photograph, perfectly composed and with the most delicious combination of light and shade. The harbour, with its boats and reflections on its calm water, makes a fine foreground and is surrounded by beautiful sunlit buildings, giving it a delightfully "cozy" feel, and all topped off by just a glimpse of the distant sea.
Your viewpoint is just perfect, you have chosen exactly the right time of day to achieve this lovely light, the colours are divine and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

Wow!, takes the phrase "a house by the sea" to a new level. Such a spectacular view, a very rewarding spectacle from outstanding viewpoint, composition and great focus! It's all of those lovely houses perched up on top of the rocks that really appealed to me. The quality low warm light and the colour are gorgeous and seductive. Well done Craig, Fabulous :)

great the panoramic view of this fascinating place during the sunset.I like the warm afternoon light as falling on the facades of the houses as briging out the details of them.Excellent the clarity of the scene as the beauty of the place.

Amicalement,

this is so amazing! The place and this shot of it, are just captivating. I really should get out and see more of Italy, and when I see images like this it jolts me into looking at the travel websites. The light here is just perfect, as is the detail and clarity of your execution. Idyllic in every way.......
Have a good week - B.

Ah Craig - The beautiful Vernazza bathed in warm light and just as I remembered it. Were did you stay, our place overlooked the village from our bedroom window and the small beach behind the tower from the terrace. Magical. I agree with you; this for me was the loveliest of the towns ... good food, nice people and superb during the evening and early morning.
A wonderful shot of a wonderful place.
Sergiom (59986) 2014-07-28 6:12
Tu as trouvé tout un beau point de vue sur Vernazza.Je ne l'ai vu que du plancher des vaches à partir de la jetée qui longe le petit port. Tu as profité d'une lumière magique qui fait bien ressortir les couleurs.
eldancer1 (27855) 2014-07-28 6:47
My kind of town especially the seafood. Awesome pov and great lighting coming from the side, the shadows created depth. Sharp details. Well done, tfs.
CLODO (30236) 2014-07-28 7:08
perfect light which illuminates the city on the rocks, coloring in orange the houses, deepening the blue of the sea, creating shadows which give the feeling of the third dimension. Almost no one in the harbour, maybe it was too late and everybody were in the restaurants!
ikeharel (57144) 2014-07-28 8:16
Most impressive point of view this picture taken from.
I can see that the bay is blue again - after the 2011 flood it was muddy-brown and with no shine. That's how we had seen it on our 6/2012 trip.
Excelent afternoon light brought-out the beautiful colors on this fine photo.
ktanska (24758) 2014-07-28 10:21
Excellent viewpoint to this little port. I think you were there on the best possible time. Late afternoon light has warm glow and it's direction creates contrasty shadows. And dark blue water works as sort of canvas for the rest.
lousat (76832) 2014-07-28 15:06
Hi Craig,no comment..i know the place and it's nice to watch your class,a great point of view,a perfect choice of the moment and the usua top quality,a great gift to Italy! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

I recognize this viewpoint although I have not been there. What makes this picture very special is the warm light and the sheen on the water.
Kind Regards, Ann

It is spectacular shot of Vernazza from surrounding hill. Your picture remind me my hike on Gibraltar and shooting photos from there.
The photo has an excellent light of late afternoon sun. It has great quality to show all details of this lovely place.
Well done Craig,

What a superb view! Wish I had of had more time for La Specia. Just spent an hour there enroute to Genoa. Nice warm cold color contrasts between the blue sea and yellow red architecture. Excellent sharpness and framing. Tfs!
