Late afternoon in Vernazza and the setting sun casts golden light on the old village. This is the time of day when the ferries and buses take the day visitors away and the village becomes peaceful once again.
The small fishing village Vernazza is probably the most characteristic of the Cinque Terre and is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Vernazza was founded about 1000 A.D. and was ruled by the Republic of Genoa starting in 1276. The medieval castle, Belforte, was built in the mid-1500's, primarily to protect the village from pirates. An ideal way to arrive to this breathtaking village is by sea. The tiny port is surrounded by subtle colourful pastels and the charming piazza is lined with good restaurants and bars. The village is surrounded by very steeply-terraced olive groves which are said to produce among the finest olive oil in the country.

A beautifully composed image with the foreground boats offering an interesting counterpoint to the buildings and green hills behind. They also make an attractive lead-in to this charming seaside village with its colourful Italian architecture bathed in sunlight, contrasting so nicely with the blue sky. The late afternoon light casts a warm peaceful glow across the scene. A fine shot and lovely presentation of this attractive place.

After the great flood, it was long time that had taken to renovate this beautiful town, Rosemary.
Remnants of the mud from the huge stream that had destroyed part of the town in 10/2011, was still noatable on the water color when were there on 06/2012. The boats seem to be back in the small artificial bay.
Fine halved image from shaded part to beautiful afternon glow.

A region of Italy that I've never visited but it looks so beautiful.
The colours are awesome, certainly under that blue sky and with the boats you added more colour on the foreground.
An attractive composition.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Rosemary, Wonderful view of Vernazza. When I was in Iutaly a few years ago I didn't know about Cinque Terre when I was planning my trip. And then I saw it from the train, so it means I haven't seen anything. Since then I am thinking of going to Tuscany again.
Marvelous composition with the blue boat in fg, superb colours and sharpness. Very inviting postcard. Have you stayed in any hotel there or just wnet fo short time?

A beautiful scene. Well=composed with a lot of detail to explore in the brighter areas.
Possibly the lower part is a bit too dark though. In my opinion it seems to unbalance the image and make it a little bit bottom-heavy.

I can honestly say that seeing these beautiful pictures from Italy has made yearn for the place again.
The f/g boats, hiding in the shadows, still point effectively to the village, rising from the water like some miniature Venice and being warmly gilded by the low evening sunshine.
A shot which captures the very essence of Italy.
My warm regards,

A wonderful composition, in that group homes as warm colors, that climb the hillside, the church puts a charming old touch, ships we see in the foreground are a stunning complement by adding more perspective to image.
A gorgeous image with good color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Have a good week.
Very well done. I love it.
All the best.

A difficult shot to make with the extremes of light and shade, but stunning nevertheless. The golden light reflected on the water and those rich colours in the architecture are just stunning. Nice use of the vertical frame and immaculate sharpness.
Un caro saluto

There is something very special about the early and late light this part of the world. I think that it is partly because it enhances the beautiful colours of the walls of the old towns. A super FG (although I might have shaved a bit off the bottom) and a wonderful blue sky. Gorgeous detail in the buildings and a perfect exposure. You must have had a lovely time in Italy.
Best wishes, Ann

superbly managed light here, with no loss of detail in this glorious image. Looks beautiful in this warm light that imparts tranquillity on the old walls of this idyllic scene.

Hi Rosemary, lovely view of this seaside villa, very well composed and captured this pretty good picture. An interesting image of a nice place off the coast of La Spezia, very good sharpness, depth, pretty light, color and quality. A great job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good afternoon and happy rest of the week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

The composition is very good, the colors are pleasant, saturated as I like.
photoray (13442) 2014-06-12 11:36
Attractive Vernazza scene, with the sleeping outboard motor boats in the foreground, reflected water, and the high walled medieval castle wall and village architectures. All in late day golden lighting and fine resolution.

Nice view of small fishing village Vernazza. Very well captured and framed shot of a very good perspective and sense of depth. The light is very well managed and the colors are nice and vivid..

Une merveilleuse vue sur le village que la lumière de fin de journée renforce encore plus les couleurs, j'aime les barques mis en avant plan, plus dans l'ombre et toujours colorées, un très bel endroit dont vous présenter a merveille

ah yes, Vernazza.
My favorite of the 5 towns.
this is where Tosca and I stayed for 2 nights.
Funny to think we missed each other by only a couple of weeks :)
really like the contrast of light and dark areas in this one. its a clear shot, I can even make out the clock face. Beauty of a town!
ourania (35890) 2014-06-27 6:08
this is a very picturesque place, you are presenting it in a wonderful composition, managing to show it in a peaceful mood too. I like very much the layers of interest, each of them has a distinct character and they are combined effectively. There are interesting details in all of them and even the clear sky rewards us with its marvelous colour. The combination of deep shadow and strong sunshine was bold and you realized it superbly, retaining details, exalting colours and capturing a thorough mood. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
