Photographer’s Note

This is a view from the sea of the eastern side of Lerici, with the Castle dominating the Poets' Gulf.
Lerici was controlled for many centuries by the Lord of Lucca, then by the Malaspina Family and finally in the 1174 by the Repubblica di Genova.
DUring the XIII° century Genova lost the war with Pisa, and Lerici was occupied by the Tuscans. In all the XIII and XIV century Lerici was a war field in the batlle between Genova and the various Lords of Tuscany. The Castle that was probably built in the first time by the Byzantin in the VIII century was rebuilt many times.
In the 1479 Genova won the last war againt the Tuscany Lord and became the owner of the Mediterranean Sea with Venezia.
The Lerici's Castle became one of the most important defensive point of the Ligurian Capital. The last work or renovation in the Castle were did in the 1555; today the Castle is an important Paleontologic and Geo-paleontologic Museum.

Belle photo prise au larges !!
Cette forteresse est impressionante...
Ton angle de vue ajoute encore à la hauteur de la forteresse et le ciel bleu avec ces nuages finit bien la composition

Nice composition. The castel sure dominates all of the town below, and the port. The sky you capture is very dramatic, like its foretelling of some invasion. Will the castle have to be ready for another confrontation? Nice photo and great note.

Ciao Paolo,
That's an impressive castle dominating well its surroundings and a view that appeals to me I like medieval castles ! Your view is nice with just a small overexposure on one boat to the left, just where the sun was striking. Having a general view like this is good to get an idea of the place, I hope you have other closer shots to have the castle displayed bigger on the screen ? This makes me willing to visit this place one day !

Ciao Paolo, l'hai presa dal battello per le 5 terre ?
Molto bella, si vede anche la discesa verso il molo che io non ho fatto tempo a percorrere (sono sceso per la scala ripida).
Beh, credo che il comune dovrebbe offrirci un gelato (a te un Negroni...)
Comunque ero circa dove dici tu, ma non al bar, sopra il muretto del frangiflutti. Per necessità, perchè era giorno di mercatino e dovevo tagliare fuori i furgoni...
Vediamo se anche tu hai fatto qualche foto delle vie interne...

Bella vista di questa cittadina ligure..ho vissuto un'anno a Genova, ma non sono mai andata a Lerici. Conosco meglio la riviera ponente. Dovrei tornarci... Complimenti!

Spettacolare immagine del castello di Lerici ove trascorsi un week-end prima di sposarmi (più di dieci anni fa!) quando ancora non ero diventato il fotografo affermato di oggi :-))). Quindi non ho nel mio portfolio foto di Lerici e ricordo il famoso adagio: la più bella foto è quella che non hai scattato. Meno male che ci sei tu a rinverdire bei ricordi anche se per la verità la pioggia allora fu inerosabilmente costante. Nitida e ben composta: mi piace il castello al centro sospeso tra mare e cielo.

A good landscape of the contrast between the artificial 'rock' of the castle, over the natural rock of the cliff. Could be sharper, but pov, color & lighting are all superb. Bellisimo!
