Columbus points on the direction of America…
The statue stands on the sea-front promenade in Santa-Margherita, between it's marina and seashore of the beautiful town in the Liguria coast, a place to take a boat to Portofino.
Close-up on the Fontana , is in the photo posted a day after.
I had to shift to the right – there was a garbage-can on left, so the Fontana looks as cropped side.
Location in Santa-Margherita: 44.334, 9.2137

a lovely composition that gives us an accurate and pleasant view of the square and its surroundings through a nice play of perspectives that distribute interest evenly all over the frame. Depth is great and sharpness and clarity are stunning offering so many details as far as architecture and textures are concerned. I love the vibrant lighting and delightful natural colours. I think that the crucial decision to crop the fontana in order to avoid the bin was correct. I like very much the well defined bows of the luminous water. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

The palm trees are framing well the statue. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the satrue of Christopher Columbus. The afternoon light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Excellent colorful photo. The deep depth of field is perfect. A well presented crop allows eyes to remain fixed on the gun and Columbus statue. The great light on the statue and the palm trees as well as the blue sky also lends a lovely contrast to the scene. Very well done.

America is over there Columbus points. A wonderful composition with strong colours. All the atmosphere is wonderful with the palmtrees and the colourful buildings steal the impressions from the statue.
Enjoy the weekend,

I hope Columbus is pointing into the right direction. In Barcelona there's a very high pillar with a statue of Columbus pointing to America. But he's pointing towards the Mediterranean and not to the west :)
Who dared to put that garbage-can on the wrong place so that photographers have to work out a new composition?
Excellent clarity and sharpness. Picture with beautiful natural colours.
Best regards, Paul

A nice job, neat and well managed in full light.
Marble Subiaco and an outstretched arm.
Excellent note, for this noble and sailor.
A good weekend.

Good Morning Ike,
I just love how you have composed the shot giving two completely opposing lines of attack. Columbus is pointing us one way, the cannon the complete opposite!
The photograph has great depth and lovely, sharp details.
Have a wonderful Sunday,

First your comments were correct, most dog owners sometimes resemble their dogs, but in her case, she's not a bulldog, but a sweet shy beauty.
Loving this photo, there's so much to look at and everything is so clear and crisp. Clarity is stunning, showing beautiful natural colors and the light management is perfect. Your POV is very pleasing, great job Ike!!
Note: Check out the new book "1493", I think you'll find it really good reading, that is if you are into history and earth science.

I think Columbus should point once in a while towards the magnificent fountain he stands on and show to tourists the lovely colourful italian architecture at backdrop!
mkamionka (36250) 2012-08-06 23:42
beautiful square, I have never seen it before. In this lovely region people usually show photos from the coast forgetting anything else. The houses are pretty and the palm trees add a nice exotic touch.
Very well done,
