Photographer's Note

The Shrine of Our Lady of the Guard - known simply as the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Guardia - is the most important Marian shrine of Liguria and one of the most important in Italy.

Built on top of Mount Figogna to 804 m above sea level, is located in the municipality of Ceranesi, about 20 km from Genoa. The sanctuary is currently governed by Monsignor Marco Granara, is so named because the Monte Figogna on which it stands, was in antiquity a strategic point for the observation of ships or armies.

On the terrace in front of the shrine is located on a vantage point from which on a clear day, you can admire the panorama of the city below with a radius of Genoa, which opens on the west and east coasts.
