Piazza del Duomo
Piazza del Duomo is a sudden, unexpected and magical, the traveler who falls from Piazza Campello. It is accessed from Via dell'Arringo, large natural stepped down seats for the public concerts in the squares.
On the right side of the road-building Racani Arroni and the home of Maestro Giancarlo Menotti, now a museum.
Cathedral Square was an area which already existed in Roman times, and by excavating earth from the hill.
On the right side there is a stone seat and a fountain added in 1954, and the fountain a Roman sarcophagus.
On the square lie the church of Santa Maria della Manna d'oro, the theater Caio Melisso built in 1600 and rebuilt in 1800, then restored by Belli and Menotti in 1958 to make the festival site.
There are also buried the ashes of the Master Schippers, one of the great figures of the golden age of the Spoleto Festival.
The Cathedral is a stunning backdrop with its beautiful shape even if generated by three successive constructions: the central body, the bell tower, the porch.
The recent renovations to date back to 1952 and 1998.
