Offida is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Ascoli Piceno in the Italian region Marche, located about 80 km south of Ancona and about 12 km northeast of Ascoli Piceno, on a rocky spur between the valleys of the Tesino (from north) and Tronto (south) rivers.
The origins of Offida are debated. In its territory have been found tombs of the Piceni (7th-5th century BC) and Roman remains; however, the town is known only from 578 AD when the population, fleeing the Lombard invasion, founded several castles in the area, included that of Offida. The true first historical mention dates to 1039, when the Abbey of Farfa received the castle of Ophida, being confirmed in 1261 by Pope Urban IV.
During the was between the communes of Ascoli and Fermo, Offida sided for the latter. In the early 16th century Offida signed a truce with Ascoli while, in the same period, all the lands of the Farfa Abbey went to the Papal States.
From the late 19th century the economy, from a wholly agricultural one, started to rely on handicraft also.
The area around Offida produces red, white and Vin Santo Italian DOC wine. The grapes are limited to a harvest yield of 10 tonnes/ha with the finished wines needing a minimum alcohol level of 12%. The reds are a blend of 50-70% Montepulciano and at least 30% Cabernet Sauvignon with other local red varieties permitted up to 20%. There are two varietal white wines produced in the DOC based on Pecorino and Passerina with the primary grape needing to compose of at least 85% of the wine and other local white varieties permitted up to 15%. The Vin Santo is based on Passerina and must be aged for at least three and half years before released.

la prospettiva sottile, gestita con maestria, riempie il quadro verticale con i familiari e piacevolissimi motivi e tessiture dell' architettura. Il ritmo interno della composizione e' accattivante e ne fa parte anche la signora che sembra fare con naturalezza il suo percorso abituale. Mi piace tanto la sua presenza luminosa contro l' ombra sul muro. L' illuminazione e la resa delle tonalita' naturali e caratteristiche e' meravigliosa, l' atmosfera molto gradevole. Buona sera Silvio,
This is a scene we can see almost in every small town's alleis in Italia: a lady carry baskets from local market, stroll her way home. What makes this so beautiful, is the elegant upright walk she has, earing shining on daylight. Also, details shown down the paved-street, facades and windows shutters, lamp-posts and decoration's.

o hai avuto fortuna, oppure tanta tanta pazienza.
Travare la strada sombra da tutto e tutti con solo la signora, credo sia raro, senza considerare che dallo specchio si nota un'auto, per cui avresti potuto trovare anche un mezzo di locmozione. Invece hai trovato una bella foto, ben composta e ben tagliata, con un'ottima luce ed un'altrettanto ottima nitidezza.

I love street scenes like this - and this is a most delightful one.

The lighting from the side adds lots of interesting shadows and also brings out the textures of the stonework and the cobbled road perfectly. The addition of the lady with her shopping bag adds interest and also a good sense of scale.

Beautiful natural colours, lovely lighting with perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

there is so much charm and elegance, not to mention history too.
the sun is a bit harshly overexposed, but its just that time of day and not much you could do about it.

Anither shot full of local falvor and colors flanked by old dwelling with the unique features characterised by their narrow alleys. The converging lines lead the eye through the scene and I do feel the composition is boosted by the lady who tends to draw the eye in the composition. Clarity is great, excellent natural coloring and fine contrast as well. Great street
