Acquaviva Picena
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Acquaviva is an Italian town of 3,860 inhabitants in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche.
Acquaviva is located on a hill that dominates the landscape of the Tronto valley, a few kilometers away from the Adriatic Sea and San Benedetto del Tronto. The elevation mid-hills of the town (359 m above sea level) you can see, in the days of good weather, as well as the highest peak of the Sibillini (Mount Vettore), even the most distant mountains of Abruzzo (Gran Sasso, Majella).
The site Acquaviva was inhabited since prehistoric times, which has yielded numerous artifacts especially vintage Piceno, but also in Roman times. When the Piceni, that there were certainly settled in the sixth century BC, remained subdued in Rome, the territory acquavivano retained vitality thanks to the proximity of the city of Castrum Truentinum.
But it was the barbarian invasions that the hill saw the birth of a real urban settlement: the arrival of the Lombards and Saracens led in fact to repair the coastal populations of the surrounding hills. The village was originally a possession of Farfa (947), then it became a fief of the Acquaviva family (hence the name) in the thirteenth century, built a fortress.
In 1341, Acquaviva transited under the control of the city of Fermo, which constituted an important garrison in enemy territory, preserving the coastal possessions (San Benedetto in Albula) from the mire of Ascoli. In the fifteenth century the castle underwent a significant population increase led to a doubling of the town, with the construction of the eastern sector, called Terra Nova Terra Vecchia as opposed to that sort near the fortress, was the original center of the country. This also made it necessary to build a second stronghold facing east.
Included in the papal legation Fermo, Acquaviva was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy by plebiscite in 1860. In 1799, during the Napoleonic campaign of Italy, the anti-French forces led by the brigand Sciabolone had put on fire destroying the local archives and with it the source of direct observation of the local history, whose reconstruction is based primarily of external evidence.

Ciao Silvio
Un point de vue remarquable sur la ville qui permet d'inclure le château qui semble protéger les maisons qui l'entourent. La netteté est grande et les couleurs belles.

Ciao !
This photograph from a distance of the old town of Acquaviva captures the spirit of the medieval times. The solid walls, the tall watchtowers, tall turrets - show that the people of those days worked on grand scale...Everything had to be much greater than life size.
The sun drenched walls have been crisply taken. The gateway on the bottom right is probably the entry to the old town. There is a sense of austerity in design as the tall walls and towering ramparts are flat and without any design. The windows are simply openings without and external protrusion. The immense watch tower is in the centre of your composition and balances the other old buildings around it.
Thanks for the photograph and the informative notes.

Bonjour, cher Silvio,
Voilà une très belle présentation de la ville. Vue panoramique qui permet de visualiser l'édifice principal et les très vieilles maisons environnantes.
Un cadrage fort bien pensé et fort bien présenté.
J'apprécie tout particulièrement.
Amitiés.

Hello Silvio,
Your POV helps to emphasize the layers of building superimposed on each other very well. The range of colours in the stone facades, all so similar yet slightly different is wonderful. I love the towns like this in Italy and your photo reminds me how much I woul slime to explore further, especially less touristy towns.
Have a great weekend

Ciao Silvio

Hi Silvio,
The trees are framing well the buildings and the castle. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the buildings and of the castle. The good luminosity is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Buongiorno Silvio,
A castle looks as a stronghold fort, defending town in old times. The view is inclusive over town, under bright daylight and good depth. There must be a river somewhere... derived fronm it's name Acquaviva.
Cheers,
Ike
