Rome – Church of San Rocco
San Rocco is a church at 1 Largo San Rocco, Rome, dedicated to Saint Roch. It is next to the Mausoleum of Augustus.
Founded in 1499 by Pope Alexander VI as the chapel of an adjacent hospital, it was rebuilt in 1657 to a design by Giovan Antonio de' Rossi, and later changes were made introducing the Neo-Classical style to it. A new, Palladio-influenced façade by Giuseppe Valadier was built in 1832.
Initially male only, a maternity wing for women from the Tiber barges was later added to the hospital and, over time, the hospital as a whole came to be used principally by unmarried mothers. Patients who did not wish to give their name had a wing set aside for them, and they were even allowed to wear veils to ensure their anonymity. The hospital was closed at the start of the 20th century and in the 1930s it was demolished for excavations on the Mausoleum, though the church remains and holds various paintings, including one of the Nativity and one of St Martin of Tours dividing his cloak, a Baroque altarpiece by Il Baciccia (to be seen in the sacristy), and a carved organ case. At the end of the right aisle is a shrine to the 17th century image of the Madonna delle Grazie, Our Lady of Graces - the second day of each month is devoted to Our Lady of Graces, a devotion that goes back to 1645.

A nice composition benefitting greatly from the cyclist who adds life, depth and a sense of movement. The curving street also makes the foreground look nicer. The church is pleasantly surrounded by trees. There is a strange change of colour of the sky halfway between the cross and the top of the photo.

Point de vue bien choisi pour présenter cette église. La piste cyclable donne de la profondeur à l'image et la présence du cycliste ajoute à la composition. Belle lumière qui met bien en évidence le bâtiment. Bon cadrage. Très bien fait.

The view is charming and it could be sent as a postcard from Rome:) I love it! All elements of the composition were captured and executed very well under the interesting spring light. Superb scene! TFS.
Have a nice week!

a different view of Rome this. A bit off the more touristy trail but that is what makes it so captivating and inviting. Love the enticing POV and lines that draw us along with the cyclist. I love the light on the church it makes it stand out so beautifully.
Have a good week - B.

A very elegant and interesting presentation of this beautiful church. I like very much the graphical layout and the excellent contrast between the splendid view of the well lit church and the dark sky in background. The bicycle rider and the road complete very well the excellent arrangement of this photo.
Very well done.
p.s. By the way, my son's name is ROMAN.

I like the point of view here with the dome making an excellent focal point and nicely counterbalanced by the cyclist, who brings the scene to life. Colours and detail are well rendered under a sympathetic ambient light.

Rome has so many churches, people can not visit them all. They are very similar outside, but distinctive inside. On your picture, only one bike on the street. You're showing us a quiet side of Rome.

It is a different view of Rome, we can't find this church in postcards, excellent photo with great clarity and sharpness, very well captured and presented

You have exploited the available elements being part of the urban scene really well with the prominence perfectly in place. The single soul successfully breaks the tones creating a superb contrast and livens this shot. A very well done shot, TFS

Superb composition to present a nice view of the beautiful church in Rome. I like the composition with the curve of the river. Nicely framed with the wall on the left. The inclusion of the lady cyclist in the FG clad in old fashioned dress makes this look like a still from an old Italian movie in Eastman Colour. Truly excellent shot, thanks for sharing.

Ciao Caro Romano,
You have used the cyclist as a most effective means of guiding viewers into this scene. In fact, the road and the river assist in the lead to the focal bridge.
The clarity is outstanding.
You have not only captured the details of the street and the architecture but have, also, revealed the texture of the masonry.
My warm regards,

Another nice capture from Rome with good layout.
Dark sky creates a perfect background to this scenery.

this is a lovely little church. Your presentation is brilliant! I like the light especially with seemingly darker sky as a background and well lit foreground. The framing for the church is fantastic with the high walled river bank at the left and the arched bridge. The biker adds another nice touch introducing some life and action. Beautiful work!!!

Hello Romano - You have posted some wonderful shots recently; this one really stands out for me. Apart from the fabulous light which has given the shot very attractive contrast, the composition is top class. The woman on the bike could not be dressed better, her dark clothing is perfect here complimenting the palette of the scene and tying in so well with the tunnel she is about to cycle through. Excellent, what an inspiration.

Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buon fine settimana,

Great composition on the curve of the road with the church in the background. Almost silhouetted cyclist added life to this shot. Well done with perfect quality.
