Photographer’s Note
This is a shot of Saint Peters Basilica taken from St. Peters square. The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), officially known in Italian as the Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano and commonly known as St. Peter's Basilica, is located within the Vatican City. St. Peter's Basilica has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world, holding 60,000 people. It is the symbolic "Mother church" of the Catholic Church and is regarded as one of the holiest Christian sites. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom". In Catholic tradition, it is the burial site of its namesake Saint Peter, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, according to tradition, first Bishop of Rome and therefore first in the line of the papal succession.

Hi Asa,
However a very wellknown place, I don´t believe it has been pictured with a couple in love, improving the composition at exactly one third from the frame ;-) Goor colours all around and a pleasant street scene!
Kind regards

Good evening Asa,
The perspective is interesting on this so famous building. The powerful light makes it possible to see many details. The presence of the visitors is pleasant, and I appreciate your humor with the foreground.
Good night.

Hi Asa,
The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The wide angle point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the architecture of the basilica and of the other buildings. It is clear and precise. The nice blue is sending a light which is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Asa, I love the things the 10-22mm can do. You;ve used it to great effect here - what better architecture could you use it on? And seeing as we're in the City of Love, how fitting that you've included a couple hugging in the FG. Nice touch, Lisa.

It is for images like this that the wide angle lens comes into its own. Without it you would probably have to do a stitch. The harsh light of what appears to be close to mid-day (short shadows) has been well managed to produce a well exposed image with good capure of the details.

Hello Asa,
an instructive picture. Compared it with the excellent photo of Giorgio (and leaving its special lighting and figures now out of consideretion) it seems to me that the miracle of this basilica can only be reproduced when we try to show the complexity of the great work of Michelangelo. The facade is only one element (by the way designed by Maderna and not in harmony with Michelangelo's work), more important are the mass of the building, the cupola and the square with the colonnades. It is proven by scientists how carefully Michelangelo projected the visual effects that can only be perceived when
1. the whole cupola is visible (it is not possible from the square - that was the big failure of Maderna) and
2. the symmetry of the whole complex (incl. square) is saved. That is why the via della Conciliazione is praised by many architects though for its building in the 20th century the old Borgo must have been sacrified.
Of course, you can be ispired by the atmosphere there and take a part of the facade or even a few drops of the fountain, but then you did not shot the masterpiece, a kind of Gesamtkunstwerk, of Michelangelo - in contrast to the title of this photo. It is good that you have uploaded this picture, we all can learn of it.
