Pontificial Swiss guards of the Vatican City.
This military corps was created on 21 January 1506 by Pope Julius II, originally consisting of 150 Swiss mercenaries. The uniform dates from those years and their usual weapons are halberds and swords, however, it is a group with professional military training and is also equipped with modern weapons like assault rifles, machine guns and pistols.
Currently composed by 110 men, being the smaller army on the world. Its mission is the internal security and the defense of the Vatican.

You are my left neighbor today. I like the colorful uniforms - not the best for camouflage, I suppose, but great for ceremonial duties.

A really great shot. I believe it was an advantage that it was not a sunny day. This makes that the guards in their colourful uniform stands out against background. A photo with dark shadows would probably not have been as good. TFS and have a fine week!
