Photographer’s Note

It was a cloudy and rainy day at the Vatican City when we arrived to see the St. Peter's Basilica, very disappointed moment for us after waiting for several years to see the Basilica again, we waited for about one hour to tray to enter but it was impossible because there was a long line.
I saw this lady undecided if she will go to the line that you can see goes all around the plaza, finally she decided to only contemplate such a beautiful and majestic architecture from outside.

To all members of TE, my good friends, I want to wish you a 2009 full of health, happiness, love, peace and prosperity.

Hola amigo Emile,
un día muy feo y gris para visitar Roma, además, la larga cola para entrar a la Basílica era un buen argumento para desistir de visitarla. El encuadre recoge su impresionante arquitectura, mientras podemos ver la gran cantidad de gente en la cola, y la dama con su paraguas en el primer plano que parece pensar si vale la pena tanta espera. Eso da un toque simpático y vital a la escena.
Trabajo muy interesante, amigo mío, y bien realizado teniendo en cuenta el mal tiempo.

Très jolie compo de cet endroit très connu mais toujours aussi beau. Un beau ciel chargé qui se marie bien avec la Basilique.

I think the line of people which we can see goes all the way to the doors is also an important part of the image. It must be disappointing to see so many people when you have travelled a long way to visit. Including the closer lady in your shot adds a certain poignancy. Good work

Ayer sali a tomar fotos y el cielo estaba exactamente como este, bastante gris y nublado. Nunca he estado en Italia, pero me gustaria ir; captaste muy bien la arquitectura del lugar y wow! esa linea se ve tremenda! Alla no tienen "speed passes"? Me muero en una linea de esas tan larga, pero me imagino que es asi no importa el tiempo que se visite.

Indeed it is disappointing. The image speaks for itself. And the greyish predominant colour is compatible with this feeling.
But it is past... for 2009 I wish you a coloured and a hopeful time.

Espero que hallas tenido unas felices fiestas junto a tu familia. Nosotros la pasamos muy tranquilos por nuestro lado.
La foto esta genial. Nos muestra de una manera muy sencilla lo dificil que es visitar el Vaticano en verano. Nosotros fuimos a finales del otoño (2005?) no habia filas y pasamos el dia entero disfrutando la visita tanto al museo como a la basilica.

Bonsoir Emile,
Je n'ai heureusement jamais connu de telles queues pour visiter le Vatican et tout spécialement Saint Pierre de Rome.
C'est dommage pour vous car cette magistrale architecture est absolument superbe (à l'exterieur comme à l'intérieur)
Malgré le temps gris le cliché me parait tout à fait réussi!

No podía faltar esta foto en tu viaje por Italia, aunque parece que el día no era muy bueno. Estupenda toma con dinamismo y buenos detalles.
Yo tengo una asignatura pendiente con Roma, pero me da algo de pereza ir, me abruma todo lo que hay para ver.

Incredible long line indeed, Emile. I'm sorry for your disapointment. I know how it's like everytime I wish to visit a major landmark and this must be one of the most visited monuments in the world. Superb inclusion of the lady silhouetted in FG - she's the best detail here and I like the centrality of the composition. The lady, the vertical monument and the cupula in the background all making a strong alignment.

Je comprends la décision de cette dame de surseoir à la visite de cette magnifique Basilique. Il faut dire que la beauté de l'architecture se suffit à elle-même !
Le mauvais temps n'arrête pas les visiteurs ! ;o)

Muy hermosa toma de arquitectura, la basilica es muy impresionante, pero a la vez una escena del dia a dia muy interesante! Esa persona solitaria, de verdad, parece indecisa, y es el punto "clave" en la composicion! Muy buen encuadre y composicion, muy buen manejo de la luz! Felicidades!

Que el 2009 esté lleno de felicidad y éxitos para tí y toda tu adorada familia. A la distancia te mando un fuerte abrazo.

Con relación a la foto, es un punto de vista decepcionante, por que el clima frío y nublado no permite apreciar la belleza y majestuosidad de la Basílica. Pero sin duda de que la toma me agrada en cuanto a composición y equilibrio en el encuadre.

Uma linda imagem, sem dúvidas. A arquitetura é uma beleza, compondo muito bem a interessante cena urbana. O céu, em tom que eu gosto muito, é destaque também na linda fotografia.

Hola Emile,
Mala suerte a doblar, además de la lluvia, esa cola sin fin. La presencia solitaria de la señora con el paraguas da mismo una sensación de desaliento y indecisión.
La compo es muy lograda, lo único que no me gusta mucho es la inclinación aparente del centro de la fachada y del obelisco, pero no sabría como evitarla y aun menos corregirla.

Hi Emile,

I do like this composition very much. The lady with the white umbrella is telling such a nice story, when she is looking at the long queue for the entrance of st Peter.
I will advice her to come back at a clear day and climb the dome and look over Rome.
