I was near the Colosseum in Rome taking pictures when a couple getting married happened to show up. Obviously they wanted to get their pictures taken in front of the famous ruin, and I took advantage of their presence to get this quick shot as they passed by. I did it as a spur of the moment, throw away shot, and as usual it ended up being my favourite shot from the Colosseum.
For an interesting demonstration of the high ISO capabilities of the D700 take a look at the workshop, which has an amazing straight from the camera picture of a famous piece of art, taken at ISO 6400.

Difficult light conditions were challenging you here, with a full lit Colloseum and people in shadow, with man in black and lady in white. So the way you've managed exposure perfectly and the result is very good.
I like the proportion of your subjects and their position in your composition.

beaucoup de romantisme dans cette scène qui mêle vie de tous les jours et beauté architectural.
Couleurs chaudes de la pierre contrastant avec le bleu du ciel.

good composition - his shoes and it would have been perfect - and a fine catch of their pose. Especially the woman looking up and holding the end ofher dress. Great colors.

belle photo de cette ville de Rome, comme Venise ville de l' amour.
Ces ruines bien conservée de ce coliseum sont de toute beauté.
Jolies couleurs, bonne netteté, ce couple ajoute un plus a votre prise.

A great spur of the moment shot here - good definition and well controlled light in what could have been a problematic dynamic range. Well seen and well done. TFS. Gerald

The exposure is bang on considering the contrast in the light. Great shot for a grab shot.

What I like in this image is that only the Colosseum structure is in the light, there's no better way to stand out, the couple attracts attention because we can notice the special dress but being from the back and in the shade reduces their impact as a foreground, in the end we see only the structure shine.
Have a nice day JY

What a nice picture, Alvin, a picture full of emotions for the couple I suppose ... if they only could see your photo! I like the idea of the freshly married couple (and her beautiful white robe ...) and the Colosseum in the back, full of history and forever fascinating. Best regards, Barbara.

I don't think I've ever seen such love portrayed in couple preparing for wedding photos. Usually it's tension city but here the man's arm is protectively around his bride and she clings to his arm, in spite of the handful of dress. It's also the way the pair seem entranced by the sight of the coleseum glowing in the sun.
As Andre notes, your management of the light conditions is masterful
And the WS is amazing!!

The couple make a nice contrast to the somewhat mundane scene of tourists at the Colosseum. Ideally you would have their faces but I think they were more concerned about shots by the photographer they were paying! It's always good to get something that spices up the ordinary picture of a famous place.
You're right, the ISO 6400 shot is pretty amazing!
