Photographer's Note

I had a quick look at St Peters and opted not to stand in 40c heat for 2 hours in the very long queues. I had a protective lens replaced in a camera shop in a side street nearby here, so I made the most of my time. The Vatican shuts around 4pm, so a morning visit is better for anyone thinking of visiting, and do check if tickets can be purchased online too. An impressive basilica for sure. I had only ever seen scale models of it before or pictures. Great to see it up close even under hard backlight.

I never realized I had left Italy and entered Vatican City by catching the metro subway train and departing at Ottavianno San Pietro station. No passports or border controls were in evidence.
