St. Peter's Basilica
The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), officially known in Italian as Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano and commonly known as Saint Peter's Basilica, is a Late Renaissance church located within Vatican City.
Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and remains one of the largest churches in the world. While it is neither the mother church of the Roman Catholic Church nor the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, Saint Peter's is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic sites. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom.
In Roman Catholic tradition, the basilica is the burial site of its namesake Saint Peter, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, also according to tradition, the first Bishop of Rome and therefore first in the line of the papal succession. Tradition and some historical evidence hold that Saint Peter's tomb is directly below the altar of the basilica. For this reason, many Popes have been interred at St Peter's since the Early Christian period. There has been a church on this site since the 4th century. Construction of the present basilica, over the old Constantinian basilica, began on 18 April 1506 and was completed on 18 November 1626.
St Peter's is famous as a place of pilgrimage, for its liturgical functions. Because of its location in the Vatican, the Pope presides at a number of services throughout the year, drawing audiences of 15,000 to over 80,000 people, either within the Vatican Basilica, or in St Peter's Square. St Peter's has many strong historical associations, with the Early Christian church, the papacy, the Counter-reformation and with numerous artists, most significantly Michelangelo. As a work of architecture, it is regarded as the greatest building of its age. Saint Peter's is one of the four churches of Rome that hold the rank of Major Basilica. Contrary to popular misconception, it is not a cathedral as it is not the seat of a bishop; the cathedra of the Bishop of Rome is located in the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran.

Bien vu, une belle idée avec l'insertion de la dame face à la cité du vatican; c'est un plus, l'ombrelle rouge donne une touche de couleur et dynamise la photo.

What a spectacular point of view looking down on this magnificent church. The lady with her red parasol is an interesting addition and helps create depth for the scene. Superb technical presentation.

The Peter's Basilica is of course a very well known building, so often photographed from every angle, but adding this tourist in the foreground gives the view a fresh approach. The woman's red umbrella, brown skin, white top and blue trousers add a lot of colours and brightness and almost drag my eyes away from the church.

a nicely original shot of this beautiful Basilica. Love the tourist eye view and of course made all the more interesting by adding the orange sunshade. Immaculate detailing and of course stunning architecture too!

Une très bonne idée très bien réalisée. J'aime beaucoup la perspective sur la célèbre coupole admirée par la touriste. L'image est profonde et nette sous une superbe lumière.

Stunning shot and interesting that all our eyes are focusing on that very spot of stinging vivid red shading the mystery fig under cool shade! This simply is an example of good photo eye, scanning the horizon in search of opportunity, simple mundane subject turned the whioe image to admire. Great find of a very opportunistic shot. Well done

fantastic POV, it seems as if taken from Castel Angelo or something close to it. Great light, beautiful view on the basilica, to balance its seriousness you have smartly included the tourist with the colorful umbrella. Good idea!

A very interesting note about this splendidly beautiful Basilica and a delightful phtograph to accompany it.
You have captured the beautiful architecture of this building beautifully and its light coloured stonework is perfectly portrayed against a lovely blue sky. The inclusion of the lady tourist with her bright orange umbrella adds foreground interest and we imitiate her by gazing with her at the distant view. The lady is, of course, perfectly placed in the frame too.
Lovely light and colours, perfect composition and exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
