The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering.
Occupying a site just east of the Roman Forum, its construction started between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign (81–96). The name "Amphitheatrum Flavium" derives from both Vespasian's and Titus's family name (Flavius, from the gens Flavia).
Capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.
Although in the 21st century it stays partially ruined because of damage caused by devastating earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. It is one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions and still has close connections with the Roman Catholic Church, as each Good Friday the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession that starts in the area around the Colosseum
The Colosseum is also depicted on the Italian version of the five-cent euro coin.

Complimenti!. Splendida come inquadratura e come realizzazione tecnica.
Ciao e buona domenica

Bonne vue générale du Colisée. Il y avait une manif devant ce jour là?

The point of view is very well chosen indeed. The lines of people snaking round the base of the Colosseum bring the scene to life and create a great sense of scale. The light is ideal to bring out the tones and textures in the old stones.

Italia's best (second) known monumaent, after Torre-pendente. A well collected details of the ancient mighty edifice, afternoon light (and long shadows)enhanced details on.
There was a ceramonial parade going-on, though the place is always crowded with tourists.
A fabulous pic. collected, in excelent clarity.

A great historic world-known site portraying the grand amphitheatre in warm light, tones and charming feel to it. A well captured, enjoyed the view you have shared, the sort of thing I find very attractive and so informative. Your pov is good and creative as the view offers such a good depth and the symmetrical framing invites the eye into the main attraction. Its so razor sharp, fine clarity, coloring and some exquisite work done here. A pleasing image, well taken with excellent notes, Congrats.

thanks for a nice capture of the Colosseum - my younger son has been there just two weeks ago with a task from my wife to make snapshots of the local cats. But he saw only one single cat during five days - which was well nourished. Is that typical?
Regards from Rhineland

Is this a political manifestation passing the imposing colosseum behind? No matter how this iconic building is photographed, it always looks very impressive and eptomizes the great roman empire to the best.
have a great day

It must be a great feeling to be able to see those historical areas anytime you wish. Awesome capture of this world famous ruins. Good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

Fine panoramic view of perhaps Rome's number one architecture with tourists, with accurate resolution,
and perhaps the constant flow of visitors.
In my mind the Roman Forum is number one, because I had to define and describe all of its structures for my Roman History college class's final exam.

This is an outstanding view to famous Colosseo. I've been many times there, but every time I'm fascinating of its beauty. You have taken this photo in superb afternoon light from excellent POV. The crowd around adds nice life to the scene.

It was great to walk around this and see it up close. The museum and art gallery within was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. The people with the Italian flag repeating throughout add interest to this shot. The wide angled view suits perfectly. Good sharpness and splendid warm cold color contrasts between the blue sky and the reddish yellow hues of the stone Colosseum. Tfs!

Ciao Caro Silvio,
I cannot believe how many people are waiting to see this iconic monument, in October! Is there ever a time when there are small queues?
You have done a fine job, getting the whole building in frame and maintaining the sharpness of the details. The long shadows suggest that it is late afternoon, a great time for photographers.
Have a lovely day,
