I hope everyone had a good 2012, and that it's an even better 2013!

This picture of the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri (Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs) seemed somehow appropriate. The light streaming through the oculus seemed fitting for a new year full of optimism breaking through the remnants of the old year.

I'm particularly proud of this shot, as I feel like it's one of the few truly unique pictures I got in Italy.

Happy New Year Clark,
I like the reason you chose this beautiful image for the New Year. Optimism is the perfect word for an imperfect world these days, as all we have left is our faith to fall back on.

What an original composition of this great interior! Really like the way you cropped the scene including the magnificent ceiling and the sculpture on the left side. Perfectly done. A top class shot.
