Ponte Sant'Angelo
From Wikipedia
Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius, meaning the Bridge of Hadrian, is a Roman bridge in Rome, Italy, completed in 134 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian, to span the Tiber, from the city center to his newly constructed mausoleum, now the towering Castel Sant'Angelo. The bridge is faced with travertine marble and spans the Tiber with three arches; it was approached by means of ramp from the river. The bridge is now solely pedestrian, and provides a photogenic vista of the Castel Sant'Angelo
In times past, pilgrims used this bridge to reach St Peter's Basilica, hence it was known also with the name of "bridge of Saint Peter" (pons Sancti Petri). In the seventh century, under Pope Gregory I, both the castle and the bridge took on the name Sant'Angelo, explained by a legend that an angel appeared on the roof of the castle to announce the end of the plague. During the 1450 jubilee, balustrades of the bridge yielded, due to the great crowds of the pilgrims, and many drowned in the river. In response, some houses at the head of the bridge as well as a Roman triumphal arch were pulled down in order to widen the route for pilgrims.
For centuries after the 16th century, the bridge was used to expose the bodies of the executed. In 1535, Pope Clement VII allocated the toll income of the bridge to erecting the statues of the apostles saint Peter and Saint Paul to which subsequently the four evangelists and the patriarchs were added to other representing statues Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Moses. In 1669 Pope Clement IX commissioned replacements for the aging stucco angels by Raffaello da Montelupo, commissioned by Paul III. Bernini's program, one of his last large projects, called for ten angels holding instruments of the Passion: he personally only finished the two originals of the Angels with the Superscription "I.N.R.I." and with the Crown of Thorns, but these were kept by Clement IX for his own pleasure. They are now in the church of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte, also in Rome

Bonjour Romano

Ciao Romano
the eternal City captured soooooo beautifully. The light and atmosphere here are just sublime. That special colour that sometimes preceeds the dawn which paints everything so expressively. Subtle pinpoints of light and a palpable sense of calm. Stunning! Love it!

Wonderful colors and tone in this shot. The pinkish purple pervades everything due to the reflection on the water. Nicely framed, with the focus directly on St. Peter's. The lights add a lot of visual interest as well. Nicely captured. Thanks.

Bonjour Romano

Dear Romano,
this is not only very beautiful picture but also has some spirit - and I always value it the most. Lovely atmosphere created by the colors and subtle light is the first thing which strikes me when looking at this image. The architecture of course is splendid and it goes without saying that it makes a perfect subject.
Well done and have a lovely evening

Hi Romano,
This is a pretty amazing scene, and could easily be a still shot from a movie. The pink sky enhances the architecture so beautifully well, and your composition to include the reflections of the lights in the river is perfect. Another beautiful and classically Roman scene.
All the best
Noel

Bonne semaine,

One day, I will have really to go and visit Roma.
You caught a very nice mood with this soft lightning and the purple-pink colors in the sky, nicely balancing with the remaining urban lights.

Ciao Romano,
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona serata,

Ciao Romano,
Superb capture, this low light and color is simply amazing! It gives the setting an entirely different atmosphere and enhances the beauty of the scene. This was definitely worth being out early to grab this moment. Very nice detail and strong composition to showcase so many wonderful elements. Bravo!

Caro Romano

Ciao Romano,
this is one of my favourite views from Rome. Great POV which allows to include also the bridge with the attractive arches. Perfect timing with amazing colors of the sky. I have taken a similar photo many years ago but with a analog camera and the photos from that time got old and damaged with time so I always dream about visiting this place one more time to repeat my favourite photos.
Excellent work,
