City of Latin origin located on the Tyrrhenian Sea, was the site spa and holiday resort since the times of the Romans; At the beginning of the sixth century A.D. century the ancient cittàfu sacked and destroyed by the Goths, who roamed the Lazio and the Roman coast, the ancient port was abandoned, and all the survivors moved to a small group of houses around the temple of the god Neptune, who, after a short time, it would become the current medieval town of Neptune.
Later, from the Renaissance until the unification of Italy, was the fief of various families of Lazio and during Fascism was united in a single municipal government, with the neighboring Anzio.
Returning an independent town after the war, is now a city of nearly fifty thousand inhabitants with its own marina and, in addition to its core feature for summer holidays, has become an alternative housing than in Rome because of the lower cost of the buildings.
Heart of the town is the old town, interwoven with stately homes and simple tangle of streets and squares, all around the Collegiate Church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. To one side of the Collegiate there was the Oratory of Mount Carmel, the other the church of SS. Sacramento, in front of the baronial palace already Column, now owned by Borghese. On one side of the village the beautiful building of the Segneri, across the majestic Doria-Pamphili palace, also owned by the Borghese, with frescoes by Pier Francesco Mola, especially in the halls and in the party room.
Worth a visit to the cemetery of the Americans deads in second wars, as you can see in the photo.

A strong and emotional image, and quite surprisingly to see this is Italy, I quite wrongly made an assumption on this location before reading further. A fine angle to capture the level of human tragedy evident here. The way the light has fallen over the background crosses is really exceptional.
Thanks for sharing

fanno sempre molto effetto tutte queste croci bianche.

An image with strong graphical lines and one full of emotion. I like the light and shadow play and the feeling of depth.

J'aime bien les photos qui semblent sortir de l'ombre pour exploser dans la lumière au loin. J'aime le point de vue qui donne une très bonne idée du grand nombre d'américains morts en Italie.

Hello Silvio - This is something quite unexpected from your lens. Interesting too. The composition is good and I get a good idea for just how many Americans perished and are buried here. The neat white grave stones and the Italian and American flags are a sombre reminder of the follies of man.

Places like this always provide plenty of opportunities for games with geometry!

Beautiful composition of great visual as well as emotional appeal. The pov is superb and so are the lovely natural colours. The shadows on the foreground grass lend an air of peace and tranquillity to the picture. Compliments on sharing this superb photograph.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Silvio, What a emotional image here with all these crosses and flags across the land. Incredible sacrifices of these soldiers to protect their countries and people.
Excellent POV which gives a nice graphical lines to the frame. I like the sunlight that falls on the crosses and the dense forest as backdrop in the BG. Thank for sharing
