Photographer’s Note

Shot taken from Rilke path, starting from Duino. The path goes along the cliffs on the left, occasionally giving a chance to climb the rocks and see the stunning landscape below. Summer is here, private yachts and boats are already out. The crowd is more on the right (we dont see it here). While some choose to go out on the boats, there are a few who prefer lying down on the small patches of beach, starting from Sistiana Mare, which is hidden behind the carso spur on the left, the Costa dei Barbari, a sort of 'hidden' pristine patch, and other even interesting places after it ;)
Nevertheless, the waters are amazingly clear and the view from above is breathtaking.

Between sea and sky, and bordered by a thick pine tree wood, it inspired the Prague-born poet Rainer Maria Rilke who spent several months in Duino during 1911-12 as a guest of the Princes Thurn und Taxis in Duino Castle, to write his Duino Elegies, which is why the path is named after him.
