Statues of Garibaldi can be found all over Italy. This particular one stands on the appropriately named Via Indipendenza in Bologna.
A little information from Wikipedea:
Giuseppe Garibaldi (July 4, 1807 – June 2, 1882) was an Italian general and politician. He is considered, with Camillo Cavour, Victor Emmanuel II and Giuseppe Mazzini, as one of Italy's "fathers of the fatherland".
Garibaldi was a central figure in the Italian Risorgimento, since he personally commanded and fought in many military campaigns that led eventually to the formation of a unified Italy. He was appointed general by the provisional government of Milan in 1848, General of the Roman Republic in 1849 by the Minister of War, and led the Expedition of the Thousand on behalf and with the consent of Victor Emmanuel II.
He has been called the "Hero of Two Worlds" because of his military enterprises in Brazil, Uruguay and Europe. These earned him a considerable reputation in Italy and abroad, aided by exceptional international media coverage at the time. Many of the greatest intellectuals of his time, such as Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, and George Sand showered him with admiration. The United Kingdom and the United States helped him a great deal, offering him financial and military support in difficult circumstances.
In the popular telling of his story, he is associated with the red shirts worn by his volunteers in lieu of a uniform.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,
Belle prestance cavalière à travers cette statue.
Nous avons vraiment l'impression que l'homme est en train de contrôler ses troupes.
Très bon cadrage et bonne gestion de la lumière.

A most interesting note on Garibaldi.
I was only really aware of the biscuits by that name.
The lighting conditions were quite difficult with contrasts of shadow and bright sunlight but you coped very well.
The statue is strongly positioned in the frame, creating an impression of confidence and grandeur, qualities with which I'm sure he was endowed!
Have a great Sunday,

nicely composed shot of this amazing man who means so much in Italy. The light in this shot is so perfectly placed as it highlights the statue so attractively and effectively. What did we do before Wikipedia? Not sure how many youngsters access it as much as we do though. Wonderful shot.
Have a good week - B.

Great note and image. I have not posted a workshop of somebody else's image before so I hope you don't mind if I use this as a first. It is not that I think that there is anything wrong with your image but I thought that I would try to do something different with it. Hope it works out and I hope you will like it. To see the effect of cropping you will need to select 'compare' otherwise TE imposes an unintended extra cropping on the right side.
