Photographer’s Note
This is a view of the two most famous buildings of Parma, the tower of Duomo and Baptistry, forming part of the so called Centro Episcopale, from a narrow side street. Both the Romanesque-Lombard Duomo and the beautiful octagonal Baptistry date back to the eleventh century.
The Duomo holds some of the most famous works of Correggio, the famous Parman painter who worked exclusively in Parma, and early works of Parmigianino, a pupil of Correggio, whose fame did eventually surpass that of his teacher. The Baptistry is a work of Antelami and is believed to be his finest work. From the architectural perspective, the style of the Baptistry is considered to be bridging the gap between the Romanesque and Gothic styles.
