Photographer’s Note

Salsomaggiore Terme è un comune di 19.937 abitanti in provincia di Parma. Famosa per il turismo termale, rinomata per le acque salsobromoiodiche già note agli antichi romani e ai celti, ma le cui proprietà curative furono scoperte solo nel 1839 dal medico Lorenzo Berzieri.
Il comune è anche famoso per la vasta quantità di opere dell'architetto/pittore/scultore Liberty Galileo Chini, tra i principali edifici si ricordano il centro termale L.Berzieri e le sale del Palazzo dei congressi.
Fra le manifestazioni che ospita, celeberrimo è il concorso di bellezza di Miss Italia, di cui Salsomaggiore ha ospitato finora le finali di 39 edizioni.

Salsomaggiore Terme is a town in northern Italy. It is located in the province of Parma, in the Emilia-Romagna region, located at the foot of the Apennines. It is a popular Spa town. The water is strongly saline.
Due to its sodium content, the mineral water of Salsomaggiore belongs to the group of salty waters, a bromo-iodine-salt variety. A hypertonic and cold water extracted from artesian wells, 800 to 1,200 metres deep, at a temperature of 16°C and at a density of 16° on the Baumé scale (1 degree Baumé is equivalent to approximately 11 grams of salt per litre). Due to the therapeutic properties of the water, people come from far and wide to rid themselves of bronchial and gastric problems.
The main focus of the town lies in its baths, notably in the "terme" situated in the centre of the town. This building is the palace of the baths designed by Galileo Chini in 1923, and dedicated to Dr. Berzieri.
Once a year the finals of "Miss Italia" are held there, and the normally quiet streets are lined with sports cars. See WS.

The picture is very nice and I really enjoy seeing it!
All the technical qualities are excellent but I'd like to point out these highlights: high pov and management of light, with the best balance between light and shadows, creating impressively attractive patterns all over the image!

Ciao Renzo,
Credevo di vedere "Miss Italia" sul WS… io sono un po'delusa ma il palazzo è bello anche!!!
Molto divertendo idea di fare questa fotografia, tu osservi in fondo, e lui ne su!
Un bello modo di presentarci questo bello suolo di marmo. Con la luce si pensa ad una meridiana. Uno bello esempio dell'architettura “ Art déco" (arte decorazioni in italiano? no liberty ovviamente, hanno appena letto il titolo) con queste belle porte.

An interesting scene here..the elevation catching a good amount of activity of the people and the light..the shadows..wonder what a compo would look including just the tall shadows and the stamp on the floor..

Wow, Renzo,
che bella controluce. Da una buona impressione dello spazio che viene aperto da questa architettura bella.
Mi piace la tua esposizione che mostra tutti i detagli nell´interno, solo fuori ce una piccola area di sopraesposizione.

al solito la gestione della luce è perfetta, così il bilanciamento fra alte e basse luci è molto gradevole e anzi, in esso si esalta il gioco di ombre lunghe che spezzano le geometrie forti presenti nel frame. Bella prova!

Belle queste sciabolate di luce. Un luogo normale che diventa interessante con la luce e il pov giusto. Alla fine e' questo il segreto della fotografia. Non mi ricordo chi lo ha detto ma lo faccio mio: la fotografia non e' riprodurre la realta', ma quello che e' sotto i nostri occhi e non riusciamo a vedere.

una scena ricca di soggetti, io ho isolato quello al centro, il gioco delle ombre lo fa sembrare una meridiana,

La tua foto é bellissima: lame di luce che sembrano sciabolate. Tuttavia l'ombra dell'uomo che si allunga a dismisura sul pavimento mi rammenta delle parole di F. Kafka che sempre mi hanno messo angoscia. "Guardando fuori distratti" é il titolo di quelli che non sono versi e dicono: " Che cosa faremo in queste giornate di primavera che ora vengono così presto? Stamane il cielo era grigio, ma se si va alla finestra ora, si é sorpresi e si appoggia la guancia alla maniglia della finestra. Sotto si vede la luce del sole, che in verità sta già calando, sulla faccia della fanciulla ingenua, che cammina così e si volta indietro, e nel medesimo istante si vede l'ombra dell'uomo che le viene appresso rapidamente.
Poi l'uomo é già passato e l'ombra della bambina é tutta chiara".
Scusa, Renzo, questa lunga digressione. Ma ce l'avevo proprio nel cuore...

A very fine note informs the compelling shot. You've chosen a vantage point that gives an unusual perspective, a bird's eye view, of the lobby. Meanwhile, the brilliant sunlight streaming through the windows creates the shadows that draws the eyes.
