Piazza Maggiore is the principal square in the city of Bologna, Italy. It was established in its present appearance the 15th century. It is surrounded by some magnificent architecture including the Palazzo dei Banchi, Palazzo dei Notai, the Palazzo d'Accursio, the Palazzo del Podestà and the Basilica of San Petronio.

Bologna is the largest city and capital of Emilia-Romagna Region in Northern Italy. It is the seventh most populous city in Italy, located in the heart of a metropolitan area officially recognized by the Italian government as a città metropolitana of about one million.
