Photographer’s Note
Churches are definitely a place you should bring a tripod to. Unfortunately, I was without one on this occasion, but could not resist this beautiful old baptismal font located in the excavations of one of the many churches in Naples. I'm sorry I cannot remember which one it was. The font looks to be very old and yet the colours are still so vivid. In my Workshop is a close-up of the font.
In hindsight, I should have increased the ISO in order to reduce the exposure time. However I was happily surprised with the result.

Ciao Lisa
I would love to go to Europe one day. The diffused light has worked well here. Good sharpness & framing on the baptismal font, with a nice angled pov, and excellent light textures. Tfs!

museum is the highest on my "to see" list. (The Pompeii relics alone make it so attractive.) This is an exceptionally successful presentation of this baptismal font. In most museums and churches tripods are not allowed. You've done very well in steadying your camera without a tripod.
Warm regards,

Hi Lisa.
Well, even handheld at 1/4 sec. you got a really sharp picture of the font. The ISO was high enough as it was, and the IS aspect of the lens did the job. I agree with Chris's comment about the light. And the angle of view is well chosen for both the plinth and the font itself. I don't blame you for forgetting the church! This happens all the time to me - I sometimes have to do extensive searching on the internet to establish a location for a photo before I upload it.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Lisa,
A fine capture of this lovely old font. The point of view is well chosen with the pillar in the background complementing the plinth of the font. The tones and textures are beautifully rendered. You don't really have to hump a tripod round with you if you have steady hands as you obviously do :-)

You must have a steady hand Lisa for such a slow speed to work hand held. The ISO you used worked well to capture a fabulous old font.
cheers

Ciao Lisa, il tripode è qull'attrezzo che non porti mai quando serve, però te la sei cavata alla grande, magnifico scatto senza micromosso, splendida luce, brava, ciao Silvio

Hi Lisa,
wonderful details here. Never stops amazing me how elaborate the catholics were... The baptismal fountain is beautiful, but so are the tiles and the pillars.
Have a good week and take good care my dear!
Hugs,
Linda

Hello Lisa,
You mean I have to bring a tripod to church on Sunday?;)))
If you could get this kind of result by handheld, you wont need a tripod for most occassions. You have steady hands, unlike mine. The sharpness is admirable and the colours of this ancient relic is amazingly good.
Cheers

Ciao Cara. I find such subjects touching and moving as they reflect the generations that have gone before us, people that held strong beliefs and placed all their hopes in an afterlife where the hardships of life would make some sense. Grandparents, parents, stood by the font and repeated the same ceremony as their forefathers did. There must be something reassuring in such traditions. The details and the age evident in this image, including the worn stones on the ground, make one respectful of Faith.Regards. Klaudio.
