Photographer’s Note
This very kind gentleman was happy to let me take photos of his most interesting shop. As you can see, he specialises in selling pasta. This characteristic little shop can be found in Spaccanapoli, the historic part of Naples. The name "Spaccanapoli" literally means "Naples Splitter" and was one of the first three streets of the original Greek city Neapolis (New City). It is the hub of much of the tourist traffic, with many of Naples' main churches running off it, and the entrances to a succession of subterranean excavations and vaults which is highly recommended. At the end of the street is a street called Via San Gregorio Di Armenio which is famous for the manufacture of Christmas Nativities.
As to what I made with this man's beautiful pasta, please see the WS:
Spaghetti Con Vongole (alla Aunty Fiorenza)
Some oil
Lots of garlic
Some dried chillies
Parsley
White wine if you want
2kgs clams (vongole)
STEAM THEM ALL TOGETHER IN A LARGE POT UNTIL CLAMS OPEN
Mix a bit of the brine to the spaghetti, then share out the clams

Hello Lisa,
A big smile occured on my face when seeing this photo in the gallery. Really a good shot.
First for the original subject well presented.
Second for the idea of B&W with this level of contrast making the pasta in white tones against darker environment.
The seller is perfect in the middle to show the scale and evidence him as the owner. From a pure graphical shot, it turns to an original photo-reportage shot what is much difficult to reach.
Yves.

ciao Lisa,
what a collection of pasta! I like the b/w (maybe I would have opted for a softer focus, but it's a question of taste =) ), it gives the image a kind of journalistic atmosphere.
and thanks for the recipe! =)

Mammamia, this shop does not make it easy to choose, nothing for those who are in hurry but wonderful for all the hobby cooks that love to try out ... like me ... I have one of these Marcella Hazan cookbooks standing in my book shelf and just the other day I discovered another one ... you remind me to buy it! And thank you for your own recipe, oh yes, this sounds tasty. I am growing some peperocini in my Swiss garden and it GROWS. I was surprised myself. Oh anyway, this is a great picture, makes me smile, makes me hungry and thank you Italy and all the Italians that live in our country to make our food world so RICH. Regards from Zurigo ... Barbara.

Ciao Lisa --------------------->
L'immagine è davvero buona, i contrasti,

Hi Lisa,
this would be hell, to lock someone who is on a low carb diet in this shop :) and I would if I could, hope they won't see this, but some of my friends are into that right now, they eat mostly meats, disgusting really. I'm not vegetarian, but to eat mostly meat on a meal is really beyond me. I like a sensible well balance meal and lot of fruits.
Good choice for black and white, classic and timeless.

Ciao dear Lisa. Both il signore and his shop have lots of character.Heis thin and long like the spaghetti hanging over his head.B&W was a great idea for if it wasn't for his runners, it would have been a timeless image. As for your dish, looks as generous as your disposition.Regards. Klaudio. Quando ci vediamo a Melbourne?

Hi Lisa,
I wonder if this could be anywhere else than Italy. While pasta is sold everywhere, this shopfront just demands to stop and get something as kind of souvenir. And there's always use for good pasta.
I wonder what this looks in colour. But if colours were distracting B&W is a good choice.

Dear Lisa,
thank you for this picture, the recipe and making me hungry. I love pasta in every variation since i was a little boy. This shop would be Paradise for me. Everytime if we are in Italy we go shopping in one of these shops. (We have only 1 1/2 hours to border of Northern Italy by car)
A wonderful picture well chosen in B&W of a man who's really proud of his shop.
I wish you a very nice weekend

Ciao Lisa,
To soon!

ahhh, very nice and refreshing Lisa! I love it!
I love the man's stance. He totally makes this photo in my opinion!
Plus, you were a total genius to turn it to b/w. The range of light is impressive and so you have fabulous contrasts.
The subject is very original. I love it
regards,
Marc
