Imagine a toddler being dragged kicking and screaming away from the toy section in a shop. Well that was me on leaving this paradise. Even now, 20,000 kilometres away, I get a pain in my heart thinking about it :)
This is a view of Positano on the Amalfi Coast. No photo will ever do this place justice.

Wonderful view of a mountain and the sea. We do not come across the two of them together often.
Good bird's eye POV to catch this beautiful bay along with the green mountain. The light colored houses make good contrast with the dark colored mountain and the sea.
Opulent light providing great clarity.
Great shot and thanks for sharing.
batalay (36433) 2013-12-11 19:56
Hello dear Lisa,
As you noted, no photo could possibly do justice to this scene, but yours comes close! You were there just six weeks before I was. Near the pier is gelato shop with the best pistachio ice cream I've ever had. You must have been standing near the San Pietro in taking this photo.

Belles couleurs contrastantes. Bien fait.

Well, this is really spectacular ! I understand perfectly your feelings for a place like that. Well taken panorama, have a fine day.
SnapRJW (31625) 2013-12-11 22:35
Hi Lisa - Your elevated view point allows the viewer to take in the full vertical sweep of the location of Positano and to marvel at the town's beauty. Easy to see why you leave your heart in such a place! The clarity here is very good and despite being quite a distant view I can pick up on the lay of the land around the beach where I can see a church in pride of place. The beach umbrellas and boats dotting the bay bring thoughts of summer holidays in paradise. For me though the beauty of the town lies in its stunning location. So...... when are you going back? Warm regards rosemary

Great pov on this landscape with town and blue sea, Impressive result with this high mountains, perfect colors, tfs.
PaulVDV (23941) 2013-12-11 23:02
An excellent POV to show us Positano in its entirety en with a good presentation of its wonderful and spectacular location on the mountain slopes near the sea.
The town looks fantastic, seen from further away and also on closer views in it streets.
Here the light is very good and makes the white and light coloured facades stand out well against the darker forested slopes.
Best regards, Paul

krzychu30 (15510) 2013-12-11 23:58
no title could better convey your nostalgic feelings.
It´s always hard to part with our homeland(have the same feelings in Poland-even if I don´t have such stunning views in Warsaw:)
Beautiful view and memory from Positano!
Ahh,the town looks really picturesque.

Ciao Lisuccia cara
dta (70313) 2013-12-12 0:45
Ciao Lisa ,
Looking at your pictures (and from other TE members) , I just say : I want to go there . Just yesterday , I've missed a great opportunity to go there by plane from my home to Naples (1500 km) for only 28 € round-trip ! What a pitty ! But i have to go there one day .
Theplace , as the view are amazing .
gojo (1769) 2013-12-12 2:36
I understand your comment, having been there myself.
Great overview of this lovely place. Fine compo showing the huge mountains and the Italian sky, over the small town.
timecapturer (49288) 2013-12-12 2:36
How indeed Lisa!
it is a gob-smackingly beautiful place and can imagine how you feel about leaving it too! I assume this shot is framed and on a wall in your home in Australia. A captivating view and one that touches the emotions even more when tied to your commentary. Deep breath called for I think :-).
holmertz (43605) 2013-12-12 3:19
There is an incredible amount of beauty that you managed to cram into one photo. The impressive mountain, most of it covered with frest, the pretty town and the blue sea with all those boats. You even found enough space to include some vegetation at the bottom. Vibrant, wonderfully saturated colours and a perfect exposure.
mkamionka (31921) 2013-12-12 3:27
I can well understand the comparison to a screaming toddler :) That is one of the reasons why I don't travel that much even locally.
Spectacular location of this town well presented from this elevated POV. It looks like a paradise indeed and no wonder it is hard to leave. The only reason to leave would be if you go to another paradise :)
mirosu (15126) 2013-12-12 4:18
All your photos are superb but this is one of the best!! The view of famous Positano is superb.
An idyllic landscape scene so very well captured in gorgeous colors and beautifully composed. Your high angle POV is very good; I really like the composition with the nice white houses and especially the dominant green has brought so much liveliness to this shot, wonderful details and excellent light reflections on the blue-green sea water. Indeed a peaceful and tranquil, I think we could live longer here! Well done, thanks for posting it.
snunney (88210) 2013-12-12 4:58
Apart from the composition, what I like most about this image is the lighting and the contrast in tones between the sun-kissed town and the dark background mountains. Having been to Bologna earlier this year, I am itching to get back to Italy, but I can't see that happening next year, too many other plans and not enough money!
Romano46 (18472) 2013-12-12 5:01
Ciao e buona giornata
Sergiom (65065) 2013-12-12 5:10
It looks a lot like Cinque Terre in the north of Italy. I have never been in Positano, but I have seen a lot of picture of that beautiful city by the sea.Look at that beautiful water.
Have a nice day
Kielia (24071) 2013-12-12 6:01
your POV on this idyllic village works excellently. You are presenting a very pleasant impression of this wonderful place. And I read your touching note with interest. I know what you are talking about - for me it is the same when I see images of my beloved Dyvig. But fortunately Dyvig is only 100 km away from my home so I can go there quite often. My compliments for this beautiful image!
ChrisJ (102685) 2013-12-12 6:55
Well I did not actually stop in Positano but did get to drive through on the local bus twice, once at night and again coming back from Sorrento to Altrani and see it from the boat when it made a brief stop to pick up passengers for the Isle of Capri. Good sharpness and density levels with excellent framing. The fg oof shrubs add depth and framing. The red beach umbrellas are so numerous they almost make the beach appear red! Tfs!
ikeharel (61323) 2013-12-12 8:16
Your chosen POV show superbly what you described in your note, Lisa.
Only one time I was there, on 6/1980 and do not have adequate photos from back than to post here on TE.
The place is overwhelming, you do not have to kick yourself - just come again...
Fabulous taken from a high point. Stunning blue.
Noel_Byrne (26525) 2013-12-12 10:35
Dia Duit Lisa,
I have to agree, were this my home, I would never wish to leave, its such a beautiful place. And it looks like an ancient place too, as the buildings are scattered up the hillside like this, it reminds me of the cities of ancient Greece (with the mental images stolen from Clash of the Titans!!!) A really stunning combination of sea and mountain, and a perfect slice of great urban design.
I image this place has not changed for hundreds of years, except perhaps for the manner of propulsion of the boats :)
Beautiful shot and place Lisa, thanks for sharing.
I hope all is as well can be.
cornejo (34626) 2013-12-12 10:56
Hello dear Lisa, excellent and nice view of this interesting and beautiful villa, very well captured with a great POV with very good and nice photo. A wonderful image with good sharpness, depth and quality. A great and beautiful work well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good morning and happy weekend.
Best wishes from southern Spain.
rigoletto (34269) 2013-12-12 13:43
ciao lisa. i've seen countless photos from there, but this one is the most comprehensive version, imho. very good distance found to get the whole backing mountain. you were still staying there maybe, but your note gives a feeling like "this was your farewell look, till next time"...
lousat (80973) 2013-12-12 15:11
Luciano

Ciao cara Lisa,
A wonderful and very heartfelt note about this beautiful place and a very fine photograph too, despite your predications to the contrary.
Your high viewpoint and the fabulous lighting from the side have both contributed greatly to the beauty and impact of this photograph, the town and all its little buildings lit up like a jewel against the mountainside behind it and the deep blue sea before it.
Glorious light and colours, perfect exposure and composition and exquisite details and sharpness.

Lovely shot from a highpoint in the mountains.Spectacular view of the little Italian town by the sea and the hills.Great place to be in.TFS.

Howdy Miss Lisa,
My, what a spectacular view...this is something else!
The closest as I've ever come is Riomaggiore, but I can still get a wonderful sense of this location by close proximity. I think the better question to ask when seeing this would be more along the lines of "Why would you ever want to leave?" :)
Stunning beauty, both natural and man-made, and you've captured it with precision and excellent clarity, color and detail. At least we have pictures to help remember these kinds of views and sentiments. Must be even more difficult having such a personal connection too. Bellissimo!
macjake (59870) 2013-12-12 23:38
well, i honestly don't think I can add anything to the comments that hasn't already been mentioned!!
but man thats a wicked viewpoint!
such a sharp image, the architecture looks like it was photographed from only 10 feet away! well done for sure.
love the varied blues in the water too, a nice touch!
great to be back on TE :)
I'm off to bed now, Tosca and I just got back a few hours ago...time for zzzz

Hi cara Lisa,
no wonder it is called The Jewel of mediterranean, the view is gorgeous. Specially when the sun shines and the colour of sky and sea is so deep blue. magnificent shot.
Still so many places to see. I need another travel to the south of Italy :).

Hi dera Lisa
Belle journée a toi

Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buon fine settimana,

From all people I know well this feeling of nostos and as I've said many times...my body is here but my heart and my mind are someplace else...actually we never leave our beloved places, we always carry them in our hearts no matter where we go and our mind is just wandering there all the time reminding of the beauty and of our land!! your picture is beautiful but more beautiful is your heart!
ktanska (25505) 2013-12-15 8:58
High viewpoint shows that town on correct proportions compared to background mountain. Absolutely beautiful place, no wonder you love the region. It just leaves me speechless, so it's hard to make any meaningful critique.
(You asked when will I start my journey. That'll be on the New Year's Day.)
Gigidusud (17599) 2013-12-15 9:23
Spesso penso a tornare li.
Bravaaaa!
