It was late at night in the town of Sorrento on the Almafi coast. I was walking through the streets and spotted this social gathering. Note the background is an old fresco.

Quite interesting Kyle, looking at the image at first I thought this is a photo of a painting. Like the way reality merges with the fresco, and this image couldn't be taken anywhere else but in Italy.

This is the second time this week that I've intended to say that a photo looked very painting-like to me, only to find that someone had said it first.
Anyway, it's true. This image has the gradiated hues and the composition of classical paiting. In particular, the light coming in a shaft from a single point (in this case the upper left) and falling on a group of figures, illuminating them in such a way as to add depth and dimention, is very like Caravaggio, as in this painting.
Very nicely done.

Very beautiful. It looks like out of our time. Great scene. Great shot!

My, this is a great shot Kyle. It has a wonderful old-time quality due to the monochrome, the furniture and the fresco. I particularly like the mood created by the black and white format.
The composition is also very attractive with the positioning of the tables and their shadows creating interest and depth; the patch of light on the fresco demanding attention as though saying "lift up your eyes to me"; the darkening in the corners to concentrate attention into the scene and the fact that the people round the table have their backs to us, making us wonder what they're talking about.
Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, but I'm very taken with this image which I find quite inspirational. Thanks for the posting.

Ah, black & white! Love it. This is a beautiful shot, both in terms of composition and of the mood it evokes. The subject is clear, but the occasion is mysterious. Did you scan the negative, or the print? Either way it's a good job, you did not lose the highlight detail, and the shadows can be black in this setting. Nice job.
