Photographer’s Note

Amalfi's incredible cathedral dominates the entire piazza and is the town's greatest pride. It dates from the 10th century and was further enhanced through the centuries up till the 1800's.

The lovely façade displays a mix of styles, from Moorish to Norman, to Gothic. There is a 12th century Romanesque bell tower decorated with green and yellow glazed tiles, while the huge bronze entrance doors were cast in Constantinople in 1066.

The lovely and romantic Cloister, the Chiostro del Paradiso (Cloister of Paradise) is decorated with delicate Moorish arches.

It's a very interesting and decorative interior Fara, and I like the way you composed the shot with the pillars dividing up the frame. With the multitude of patterns and lines of the architecture, it's a very busy image, but in a good way - there's a lot for the eye to explore.
If you handheld this at 1/8th second, you've done well to keep it reasonably sharp, but with such a wide aperure the background is inevitably quite soft.
I feel a bit hypocritical here (I'm usually much too lazy to carry a tripod!), but there's no denying that using a tripod here would have enabled you to close down the aperture to get a much sharper image.

Hi Fara,
I find the composition exceptional, esp. the vertical lines and the inclusion of the worshippers/tourists on the right. I'm quite sure you wouldn't be allowed to use a tripod in there even if you had one. Could have considered cranking the ISO up to 800, plus underexposing by a stop or so to make up for the lost light in PP. That would have given you 1/30 sec at f/4, or the equivalent. Fine picture.
