Because of poor weather, I haven't done a lot of photographing recently so I have chosen to post this shot from my archive.
This is a shot of some columns at Pompeii. As you can see the sky became very ominous whilst we were there! The dark clouds gave a dramatic backcloth to the ancient, ruined city! (I did take a sideways look at Vesuvius!)
Here is a little extra information about Pompeii from Wikipedia:
It, along with Herculaneum (its sister city), was destroyed, and completely buried, during a catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning two days on 24 August 79 AD (1928 years, 154 days ago).
The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under many meters of ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a street in Pompeii.
Many thanks for your visit.
I hope you enjoyed it!
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

The weather wasn't apparently too rich the day you visited Pompeii, but this contributed positively to the luminous aspect of this image having the sun ray coming through put the highlights to shine against the dark clouds and boosting the good impression we can get from it. I find the framing too tight, especially on the left.
Have a nice week end JY

The dark sky enhances the contrast an dbetter show the details of the columns. In addition it creates a rather dramatic atmosphere

This is a cracker. The stonework really stands out beautifully against that sky - it looks more like the skies we get here rather than in the Mediterranean. Great detail and sharpness too.
And a very good and informative note.

A very good contrast between the sky and the well placed of the columns!
the exposure and focus really makes the columns stands out against the sky!
very well done on this presentation
have a wonderful weekend, Bev!

The contrast of the white stones with the black sky is great and makes a fantastic contrast.
Maybe cropping less at the top and the left would have given us a bit more perspective.

I like the combination of bright light on the columns with blue-gray skies.

The dark and threatening sky gave you a great contrast with the light on the columns. I like your composition very much, showing the ruins behind. It must have taken a bit of manoeuvering around to get it all in and still show the row of columns on the left the way you have. Most impressive shot, great exposure.

The columns on either side frame well and the image is well sharp allowing us to see much texture in the stonework. The threatening sky serves as a good backdrop. Nice one.

Hello Beverley, an unusual angle for this shot of Pompeii but one that I like. The dark sky really adds to the atmosphere. There is good sharpness and I like the details that we can see.
Pompeii is a place that I would really like to visit, thanks for sharing.
Good informative notes.

Beautiful vertical presentation of these ancient marble columns standing so proudly in the wonderfully contrasting silver blue stormy sky. Very tasteful farme to this fine composition.

Very ineresting POV, but what I like the most is contrast between bright columns and dark stormy sky.
Definitely I have to add Pompeii to my list of places which I must visit.

Superbe composition, avec ces colonnes sur les côtés, et cette vue au milieu.

I like the contrast between white pillars and the sky, the frame in matching colours is fine, too. I've got the impression that this composition should have more space around, especially on the left and on top. If possible, of course - I don't know what was out of the frame, maybe something that would spoil the effect (like a group of tourists).

A storm appropaching on far side, sea side and yet illuminated from sunny side, Beverly. A fine photo on a moment over the ruins.
Superb clear details on the ancient survived pillars.
Have a nice holyday weekend.
