Photographer’s Note
These are the excavated ruins of ancient Roman tourist gem of high classes, Hercolaneum buried by the eruption of volcano Vesuvius in B.C. 24 August 79.
In the background you can see the houses of the little Italian town, Ercolano build up above the once blooming culture.
I took this photo from the edge of the huge pit digged during the still unfinished excavations started in 1738.
2000 years ago this perspective could have been seen from a very tall masthead from the Tirennian sea.
I loved the very nice lights before the coming storm. I hope you also enjoy it.
