During six years, I have been travelling every month to the island of Procida. The purpose was to spend a week with my colleagues of the University of Naples to study the bird migration patterns on the nearby unhinabited island of Vivara (which is located on one of the main bird migratory routes of the Mediterranean sea).
The ferry trip from Naples was not very long, and I always enjoyed the point when the ferry manoeuvred into the Procida harbour. The sight of all those colorful houses leaning against each other on the small strip of flat land along the coast always cheered me up. Especially on sunny days (which are not rare at all, even during winter) it was a joy to smell the sea breeze and I can swear that on some occasions I could even smell the delicious coffee aroma coming out the harbour restaurants and bars....
I have many fond memories of this island and the nice people living there.
PP: cropped slightly just to have the group of houses in the middle and a nice strip of that wonderful turquoise sea. Sharpening in NeatImage. Contrast enhanced to eliminate some of the haze.

what an eyecatcher! The colours are really vibrant and the buildings are each so individual. No window is the same, the shapes so varied and almost random. The contrast of the sea leads the eye straight to the subject.

Beautiful composition with those colors.

The composition is very good and the colours are great, but there is a sharpness problem, the houses are blured and it is disturbing.

I really like this type of colorful row houses. I also like the contrast between these bright houses and the dull tones of the ones above.
I remember a New-Brunswick fisherman explaining to me that all the houses on the shores where he fished were brightly painted in different colors. This way, he said, it is easier to orient yourself when at sea and coming back to shore.

Wonderful, well framed composition. Beautiful repetition of the colorful seaside old houses. The houses have an interesting architecture. Most of them seem to have an arched or half arched verandas at ground level that seem to be quite large for their size. The picture lacks a bit in quality. Well seen. Good composition.

I like the softness. Makes it look like a scene from a dream.
