Photographer’s Note

For 8 days, since the terrible earthquake which hit l'Aquila, I have thought a lot about Italy, its beauty and its sismic fragility, but above all about the victims, their families and the survivors.
I have been learning much about l'Aquila, its beautiful surroundings and architecture.
Looking in my gallery, this is the nearest I could find to last week's event.
So, I dedicate this statue of Apollo to all the people concerned. Apollo was the god of Beauty, sunlight, reason, music, poetry, purifications and cures. May it be a symbol for all the bereaved of today!
I like his attitude which is one of courage to go forward.
However, I hope L'Aquila won't remain in ruins, but will soon start to be rebuilt and to recover its former beauty.
This scene is situated in the Forum at Pompei, which is still surrounded by 48 columns. The original of the statue is in the museum of Naples.
In WS, a diffrent POV.
PS. Sorry about the poor quality, especially of the sky, but it's a scan dating back to 1991.
