There is a proverb that says, "Quando vieni a Napoli, piangi due volte: quando arrivi e quando te ne vai". It means "When you come to Naples, you cry twice: once when you arrive and once when you leave it". It is the only city in the world where those words ring true for me.
This photo was taken from Via Caracciolo in the suburb of Mergellina. In the foreground you can see Mergellina and the famed suburb of Santa Lucia, then the Castel dell'Ovo (the Egg Castle). The water you see is of course part of the Bay of Naples. To the far right are the communal towns of Naples: Portici, Ercolano (Herculaneum), Torre del Greco, Pompei, and Castellammare di Stabia (possibly just out of frame). Mount Vesuvius is slumbering in the background. Hopefully he will stay sleeping.
This was taken on a beautiful, unforgettable Autumn evening. I can't tell you how happy we were to be there.
In my Workshop is a photo which is far from being good or attractive. I'm sure you'll understand why I posted it :)
Here's Andrea Bocelli singing Santa Lucia to get you in the mood :)

A beautiful and still blue hour shot, Lisa, broken only by the gentle blur of the boat rocking on small waves. The soft light in FG is great, as are the parallel lines of the rocks leading the eye up into the rest of the shot. This is a very similar perspective to shots you've posted before, yes? Certainly a beautiful one, nevertheless.

A romantic night view of Napoli, the rock jetty foreground, then the twinkling waterfront lights, and the distant moody and dark Vesuvius.
I hope to be in Italia someday, especially for the history and culture and people.
thanks for sharing,

Ciao cara Lisa,
Beautiful blue hour shot, in the mood that is also blue. I can imagine your feelings when you left your beloved Napoli. Impressive castle on the shore, nice lights.
Big hugs to your Mum.

Cara amica mia
Ciao e buona giornata.

I am sorry, but I never cried twice yet. May be one day. This is a city that do not have good reputation regarding tourism, but it look so beautiful and historic.
But since we have trown money in the Fontaine de Trévi with the hope of returning one day, our wish is fulfilled because we are returning in may.
Have a great day

"Santa-Licia" on the air, while I was looking at this super POV over the town and mighty Vesuvius, Lisa.
Nice note written, describ the place well, and the immaculate photo presented: City lights on the waterfront, shadowed muntain on far and the sea as a smooth plateau.
All culminate to a wonderful sight.
Cheers, and take care of yourself and your mom.

Ciao cara Lisa,
What a wonderul and most emotive (and emotional) note you have written. And what a delightful photograph too of this place which I should love to visit. I note that Herculaneum nestles near the seafront there at far right and I was lucky enough to see a very interesting programme on the television about that place recently.
A beautiful photograph, well composed and perfectly timed to coincide with a lovely "blue hour" which provides a delightul combination of natural and artificial light. Perfectly exposed too and with stunning details and sharpness - the only thing not exquisitely sharp is the litle rubber boat, perfectly placed in the frame and obviously just bobbing about gently on the calm water.

this is such a lovely, lovely shot, the blue tones are a delight making a perfect setting for the twinkling city lights.
The gentle movement of the boats would suggest that your faithful tripod has been used to capture this very attractive evening scene.
Kindest wishes Les.

i love this soulful blue hour picture of the famous Naples bay with a beautiful view of the lit up towns and the mountains in the distance. The foreground framing is excellent with the rocks displayed in great detail. Lovely low light photograph.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

A delightful blueish night shot you have done a remarkable job with fantastic details and clarity as the brightly illuminated town grabs attention full of sparkles creating superb contrast. Good addition of the breakwater in the fg is like a invitation into the whole scene, I think you have brought lots of vigour to this low light shot with excellent result A fine long exposure shot and tfs, Congrats.
Tx to your critiques, noted with much appreciation

you should be working with the tourism board of Naples :)
I'm sure they'll hire you :)
if tosca and i make it to Italy, you'd probably kill us for not taking the time to visit Naples!
You know we're off to Venice right? uh oh... lol
All kidding aside, we really do want to visit Naples, its' just going to take some time.
sweet baby-blue light and color, its super sweet.
attractive all the way to the shore line.
have a great one!

I cannot resist this wonderful photo. The photo conveys a fantastic mood that is felt by the viewer. The management of the difficult light is excellent. My compliments also for the notes!

today i watched a documentary about campi flegri and its potential peril. vesuvius is naive, compared to that one! all i can say, fleeing to the other corner of the world was a smart idea... you are absent as well. hope mom is doing well.

interesting POV to take picture of the panorama of this city. The layers of the boulders add very much interest to the whole view and the boat captured in motion makes it a little bit more dynamic. Well managed light and colors, good proportions in the composition.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

"Quando vieni a Napoli, piangi due volte: quando arrivi e quando te ne vai" - if it is really so, I really must go there one day:) I've never been to Italy, and it's a shame... I don't know what city to start with.. Italy is so beautiful.
it is a very beautiful "blue" view. Excellent composition and light management :) F14/20 sec worked very well! This is a picture you can look at for very long..
