Photographer’s Note
Sunrise the following morning revealed the Island of Capri under a rainstorm as we passed by on our way to Amalfi. During the passage it appeared the ship primarily used the sails as stabilizers; although sometimes the ship moves on windpower alone. Since this vessel has no hydrofoil-type keel to resist the force of the wind driving it sideways, it would seem they could sail only when the wind was abaft the beam, and over ten knots. See WS for a photo of the rest of the jib.

Very dramatic scene. The clouds truly create a different perspective of the ocean and the island. The light filtering through the clouds on the right look great. Well composed and framed picture. Thanks Pat and Larry.

Hi Pat & Larry
Very interesting sunrise sea view with the strong cloud formation. I do like the ws picture too although the sun rays covered by the pole, the colours at the bottom are well.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice cruise.

Hi Pat,
Sunrise at sea. Sounds and looks like a great moment. Did you sleep well?
Framing showing the ship front works well. Colours look good and rugged terrain of the island is impressive.

Olá Amigos,
The image is quite dark, but certainly it's the reality and it's the sunrise mood that you wanted to present. It's very nice that you included the prow.
The golden water it's wonderful.

F

What a beautiful sight this must have been. It has a dream-like quality about it. I like the way you have used part of the ship in the composition. I like the WS too. I like these kind of silhouette images taken into the sun.

Hi Pat and Larry
It's a really beautiful scenery. The water is amazing, its color like argent and gold, and the sky over the island. It seems a landscape emerged from a dream. The compo is very good too, the piece of the boat is very useful. Congratulations and best regards,
Angel.

Great lighting showing some pretty dramatic clouds. The small bit of the ship that is showing is very important in this shot, because it gives a sense of place, and also it adds an important sense of depth or 3 dimensions to this. Excellent work!

bonjour LPC (Larry and Pat Carolan)
despite of the weak light of the sunrise, the photograph is very pleasant, especially the sky and his pink light, highlighting the big shape of the dark clouds .

Pat, those clouds with the slight translucent pink around them gives a wonderful backdrop for the half sun lite island and that lead colored sea. I love it!
Have a safe trip!

Hi Pat. The inclusion of part of the boat was essential for setting up the rest of the shot. Without it the composition and especially the foreground would feel empty. What a dramatic sky you had as well! tfs Pat.

Ciao Pat!
I never saw such a picture about Capri! Quite different indeed! Storms are not frequent there.
And you captured so many colors, so many pinks.
Good work!! Ciao!!

Hi Pat,
Very dramatic view with the clouds saying the weather could go either to bad or good. Wonderful colors on this placid silver sea. I hope you you and Larry are enjoying your visit to this awesome country.

Hi Pat
The colours are like a dream. The dramatic clouds actually help create this fantastic diffused light effect. Good idea to frame with the small bit of the ship, whose inclusion I feel is very necessary for the compo.

Hi Pat - Indded quite dramatic timing, the clouds look tropical, another proof that the mediterranen is a lot more interesting and attractive outside the summer high season.

Hello Pat -
I guess being up at sunrise, even at sea, is worth the effort and pays dividends. This is a marvelous image with the soft light and the rain clouds. I really like how the upper parts of the clouds are being lit by the sun. In my former life life in the USAF I was a weather observer and I always enjoyed a sunrise with lingering storm clouds, mainly for the light. Colorado as the same light after a summer thunderstorm. A well conceived composition, I do also like part of the boat in the composition, and perfect execution of the image. Bravo, well done!
Thanks you for sharing.
John
